Position Summary
The part-time Intern Assistant Teacher will assist at the Early Learning Center (ELC) in classrooms on a regular basis during assigned hours needed by the center. This individual will also assist childcare center staff in the duties required to provide a safe, healthy, developmentally appropriate environment for young children. Only a current student in a program related to Early Childhood is eligible to apply.
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Pay rate: $15/hr.
The successful candidate is expected to work 19 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. Projected end date: June 30, 2023.
The temporary hourly employment does not exceed 1,050 hours in any 12 consecutive month period from the original date of hire. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.
This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month.

Essential Functions
- Assist in cleaning, strengthening, and organizing classroom, playground, office areas, and or kitchen as assigned.
- As directed by teaching staff, monitor and interact with children in classroom &/or playground.
- Assist the staff in meeting the needs of the children.
- Continually observe and model teachers' interactions with children.
- Help gather and prepare materials as assigned.
- Engage children in play and activities as directed by teaching staff.
- Practice and help enforce safety standards and guidelines as directed by teaching staff.
- Must be a current student in a program related to Early Childhood.
- Must enjoy and respect children.
- Must be responsible, positive, and flexible.
- Must be willing to learn and take direction.
- Must be able to understand and communicate in English effectively.
- Must complete BC payroll/employment file requirements.
- Must complete licensing criminal history background check.
- Must provide negative TB test results.
- Must attend scheduled orientation.
- Must be on time and notify ELC office of absence prior to shift; Maintain own time sheet; sign in and out accurately.
