Job title: Itinerant Special Education Teacher (on road system)

Job description: Job Goals: To provide specially designed individual educational programs for children who cannot sufficiently benefit from the regular education program.

Performance Responsibilities:
1. Establish and maintain special classes or services for disabled students.
2. Provide direct services to identified students.
3. Prepare plans and materials for classroom visits.
4. Turn in plans to supervisor weekly.
5. Provide a monthly calendar of scheduled classroom visits.
6. Provide documentation of changes to scheduled plans.
7. Plan Child Find Activities with sites and coordinate with director/supervisor for testing and scheduling requirements.
8. Perform testing for Child Find at designated sites (DIAL screening) by October first of each year.
9. Give suggestions and coordinate pre-referral services.
10. Test students academically that are referred for the program.
11. Follow district procedure for eligibility placements, transfers, and termination of students on your caseload.
12. Interpret IEP plan and eligibility to parents and others who are involved in the child's educational needs.
13. Maintain current paperwork on students. (IEPs, ESERs, pre-referral information and other necessary paperwork to document student needs and progress).
14. Collecting Data on IEP Goals and attending IEP Meetings.
15. Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment:
The vacancy is for a full time position to meet the needs of special education students beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

Alaska Gateway School District:
AGSD encompasses 28,000 square miles extending north from the Alaska Range to the Yukon River and Canadian border. Schools are located in the communities of Dot Lake, Eagle, Tanacross, Tetlin, Tok, Mentasta Lake, and Northway. There is also a statewide correspondence school, preschools located in villages or within schools and Gateway Ready Programs. All schools are K-12 except Tanacross, which is K-8.

AGSD services approximately 400 students in seven communities. Distances between the Central Office in Tok and outlying schools range from 12 to 173 miles. All schools are on the road system. Eagle is a fly-in site for seven months of the year.

The district is located in the eastern interior of Alaska with extreme weather conditions. The average low temperature in January is -32 degrees; the average high during July is 72 degrees. The region abounds with wildlife including moose, caribou, bear, Dahl sheep, arctic hare, fox and coyote. Canada geese, swans, cranes and ducks and a variety of fish make use of the ponds and lakes in the area.
