The University Center invites applications for a Facilities Manager to oversee



This position actively participates in the daily facility custodial, maintenance, event support and planning operations of the building and supports a standard of excellence in the delivery of programs and services. The Facilities Manager embraces and adheres to the professional standards, ethics, and core values of the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), and assumes most duties of the Associate Director when absent. The Facilities Manager directly supervises and schedules the Building Services Associates, Event Support student supervisors, and student event set-up crew. With guidance from the Building Services Director, the Facilities Manager makes independent decisions and has authority in performance, pay, and employment relationship matters. Typical work hours are M-F, 6am to 2pml however, work hours/days may vary and be long according to the needs of the building. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours are sometimes required.



Through coordination and training, the Facilities Manager ensures customer needs are satisfied by appropriate employees, including Building Managers, Building Services Associates, and event support staff. The Facilities Manager?s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:



  • Supervise, schedule, and ensure the UC Building Associates are providing quality custodial, maintenance, and repair of the UC building, which includes its structure, building systems, equipment, and furnishings;

  • Coordinate the Event Support functional area which includes set-up, take-down, planning, scheduling of support team, coordinating with the Conference and Event Services and the A/V team, meeting with some clients before and during events to ensure their expectations are being met, ensuring an ample inventory of event supplies are on hand, overseeing the correct set up and operation of basic Audio/Visual equipment;

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and managing safety, health, custodial and facility-related employee trainings and staff development, including training employees to perform their tasks in a safe and efficient manner and UC?s Emergency Action Plan;

  • Actively participate in and occasionally lead broad-based work teams to research, recommend, and implement sustainability, equity and access, and risk-management initiatives.

  • Conducts staff meetings as needed.

  • Manage, repair, and maintain all inventory needed for room set-ups.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting: Floor to knuckle height, 77lbs. 12 inches to 40 inches, 100lbs. Floor to 60 inches, 50lbs. Floor to 48 inches, 60lbs. Floor to overhead, 5lbs sustained, with both hands.

  • Carrying: 2 handed front carry 77lbs for 10 feet.

  • Pushing and pulling forces required (during the use of cleaning equipment 25lbs, handling janitor?s cart 5lbs).

  • Pushing and pulling forces required (handling, pushing and pulling classroom and office furniture, file cabinets, and equipment): 60lbs sustained at waist level.

  • Pulling force required for handling Kaivac machine: 75lbs force.

  • Static trunk forward bending and twisting from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools.

  • Reaching with your arms in all directions, including overhead with 5lbs in both hands, sustained.

  • Working overhead from various positions (standing, squatting, and kneeling).

  • Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder.

  • Use of various hand grip circumferences and firm hand grip positions while manipulating various tools and equipment (maximum 50lbs).

Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment.



Minimum Required Experience



  • Knowledge and skill equivalent to a high school education or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications



  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible custodial experience and three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience, or a combination of experience and education

  • Knowledge of and ability to understand Collective Bargaining Agreements

  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of custodial methods, procedures, cleaning equipment and techniques

  • supervisory practices and procedures; common building maintenance issues; budget management; and purchasing and inventory practices and procedures.
