Job description: Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is looking for qualified tutors with a strong quantitative academic background to fill an immediate need for Quantitative Study Consultant. The Quantitative Study Consultant serves as a coach to Carey Business School students seeking assistance with quantitative courses and programming software. The quantitative study consultant's goal is to support the Student Success Center's mission by providing students with additional academic support in a professional manner. The Center offers tutoring support in key quantitative subjects including statistics, business analytics, accounting and financial reporting, business microeconomics, corporate finance, operations management and investments. The study consultant assists students in understanding content in these courses by using various teaching/tutoring strategies and will prepare and lead one-on-one as well as possible group study sessions.



Specific Duties & Responsibilities



Instruction/tutoring (90%)



  • Provide students with assistance in quantitative courses.

  • Use various teaching strategies to provide instruction.

  • Assist students with academic goal setting for their time at Carey.

  • Attend all necessary meetings.

  • Lead trainings for peer tutors and conduct observations of peer tutors.

Administrative Tasks (10%)



  • Using scheduling software to enter data and accurately record appointment attendance.



  • Attending staff meetings as needed

  • Maintain timely and open communication with supervisor via email and meeting attendance.

  • On-time tracking and submission of weekly hours spent performing responsibilities.

  • Directing student inquiries regarding Center policy to general tutoring inbox.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must be available in the evenings and at least one weekend day. Must be willing to work with students across time zones.

  • Excellent writing, communication skills and mastery of English.

  • Knowledge of statistics, accounting, finance, analytics or economics.

  • Knowledge of MATLAB, R, Python, Excel, SQL, Tableau preferred.

  • Knowledge of teaching principles and tutoring strategies preferred.

  • Reliable, patient and professional.

  • Ability to maintain a professional working relationship with students, staff, and faculty.

  • Knowledge of statistics, accounting, finance, analytics or economics required.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree.



  • Must be available evenings and at least one weekend day.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's Degree from a graduate business school preferred.

  • Excellent academic record.

  • Tutoring/ teaching experience.

  • Experience using online tutoring platforms such as Zoom, Skype, or Google Hangouts.

  • Extensive experience using a range of quantitative and finance courses is highly preferred.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
