Job description: Position Summary

Skagit Valley College (SVC) is accepting applications on a continuous basis to establish a talent pool of applicants for Security Guard positions. The Security Guard provides security services to the SVC community and will monitor and patrol the college campus buildings and grounds to maintain security from fire, theft, unlawful entry, property damage, and vehicle prowls. This position reports to the Director of Campus Security and takes direction from the Campus Security Officers.

This is an applicant pool for ongoing consideration as positions become available. There may not be a current opening at the time you apply. These positions are based at the main campus in Mount Vernon. Hours of work may vary and work days may be scheduled on an as-needed basis. Work hours may be early morning, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Patrol and inspect an assigned area of buildings and grounds, on foot or using College vehicles and bicycles;
  • Maintain security from fire, theft, illegal entry, property damage, or unauthorized use of buildings;
  • Maintain a daily log book recording of shift and patrol activities;
  • Issue citations for violation of College parking regulations;
  • Issue orders to appear before appropriate personnel for violation of the student conduct policies;
  • Redirect traffic in parking lots using barricades as requested;
  • Examine and lock doors and windows of buildings;
  • Activate security alarm systems after securing buildings;
  • Respond to all alarms;
  • Provide assistance to visitors and guests;
  • Receive and sign for registered mail and other deliveries made after normal working hours;
  • Walk staff or students to parking lots, classrooms, or other campus facilities upon request;
  • Report needed repairs and safety hazards to appropriate personnel;
  • May be required to perform first aid.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, such as but not limited to lifting 25 pounds or less, walking and standing for long periods of time, and turning keys repetitively.

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • Service oriented with excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Salary, Benefits, Conditions of Employment, Application Procedure

Salary and Benefits:
  • Rate of pay is $18.00 per hour.
  • Eligibility for benefits is in compliance with state rules and regulations.
