Department Summary
The Mayborn School of Journalism is an ACEJMC-accredited school with Texas's only accredited journalism master's program. We are located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, in the fifth largest media market in the country. We enroll approximately 900 undergraduate and graduate students. UNT is categorized as an R1 (Very High Research Activity) institution by the Carnegie Classifications of Institutions of Higher Education.
Graduates from our program work across the country, including in top-tier markets such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and others. Our alumni have won Cannes Lions (including the Cannes Grand Prix for Good), One Show Pencils, Addys, and other advertising awards. Our students receive exceptional preparation for the industry as they engage in a multitude of media and hands-on professional experiences, including our student-managed ad agency (SWOOP), PR agency (AGENZ PR), and NSAC team (Gravitas). We offer study abroad programs in the United Kingdom, Japan, Spain, and Mexico. Position Summary
The Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas invites applications for a Lecturer to begin in Fall 2024. The successful candidate will have expertise in media buying and planning with an emphasis on new/digital/social/programmatic media buying and analytics.
The person in this position will a teach a 4-4 class load in our advertising sequence. An important responsibility will be to advise the Ad Team, Gravitas, which participates in National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) each year. As such, this position allows extensive hands-on experience working alongside our talented students in not just a teaching role, but in mentorship and coaching roles as well.
We seek candidates with expertise in new media technology, including proficiency in advertising online through writing-driven strategies such as search optimization, content marketing, and corresponding campaign and digital analytics. Ideally, the person for this hire would have advertising industry experience working on social media campaigns. The role will play an important role teaching courses related to inclusive strategies and advertising, and people-centered copywriting and as such should have experience with multicultural and global advertising campaigns, and advertising themes used across cultures, values, and perspectives.
This position will teach a 4-4, with one of the classes being advising the Ad Team that participates in NSAC every year. We seek a new media technology expert with proficiency in advertising online through writing-driven strategies such as search optimization, content marketing, and corresponding campaign and digital analytics. Candidates must have experience in creating and/or evaluating multicultural advertising campaigns. Ideally, this hire would have industry experience working on social media campaigns and, as a plus, directly with influencers and/or brand activations.
Minimum Qualifications
By the time of appointment, candidates must have a master's degree in advertising, strategic communication, or a related field. Candidates must have documented success teaching advertising courses at the college or university level. Candidates must have experience developing and evaluating diverse and inclusive advertising campaigns.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have documented proficiency in advertising online through writing-driven strategies such as search optimization, content marketing, and corresponding campaign and digital analytics. In addition, preferred candidates will have industry experience working on social media campaigns and, as a plus, directly with influencers and/or brand activations.
