Job description: POSITION SUMMARY: The secondary English Language Arts Lead Teacher supports middle and high school English Language Arts (ELA) teachers and District ELA initiatives. The English Language Arts Lead Teacher collaborates with the Supervisor of Secondary ELA to ensure that the instructional program is aligned with state and national standards is culturally responsive, data-informed, and strategically addresses a multi-tiered support system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports the Supervisor of Secondary English/Language Arts in coordinating research-based methods of curriculum reform.
  • Collaborates with the Supervisor of Secondary English/Language Arts to collect and analyze student performance data to develop plans for student achievement.
  • Provides support in developing new programs and implementing District initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the Supervisor of Secondary ELA to plan and deliver professional learning through monthly meetings.
  • Supports middle school and high school English/Language Arts teachers with implementing the curriculum.
  • In Collaborating with the Supervisor of Secondary ELA and teacher leaders, plans and delivers quality professional learning opportunities that are research-based, aligned to the Common Core State Standards and the national professional development standards.
  • Stays current with best practices, timely research, and trends related to literacy with a focus on the unique needs of all student populations.
  • Works with community partners and school groups to build knowledge of effective instructional practices in ELA.
  • Performs other functions as assigned by the Supervisor of Secondary English Language Arts
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Five years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level
  • Knowledge of research-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
  • Commitment to equitable teaching and learning practices
  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and the vision and mission of New Haven Public Schools
  • Experience in data collection and analysis
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to speak in front of large groups
  • Experience using instructional technology to support teachers, curriculum development, and assessment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and be flexible
  • Proactive attitude with forward-thinking problem-solving skills
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills
CERTIFICATION / ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Valid CT teaching certification in secondary English Language Arts, 015 SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-Month work year. Local 933, New Haven Federation of Teachers. The salary range for 2023-2024 is $47,708 - $101,297.

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually according to the district?s Teacher evaluation process.
