Overview

The Dance Activity Instructor choreographs routines and teaches participants various forms of dance including hip hop, contemporary, modern, jazz, African, step etc.

Reports To: PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Location: 700 Park Ave, Brooklyn NY 11206

Hours: Up to 12 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt

Salary: $19/hr - $25/hr

MAJOR DUTIES OF THE DANCE ACTIVITY INSTRUCTOR:
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of activity participants.
  • Create and facilitate dance activities for groups of up to 25 participants.
  • Develop dance curriculum (based on students? interest) encompassing different aspects of the dance field; providing participants with experience and knowledge of dance language, skills and professions. Curriculum must promote creativity, self-expression, mastery, and emotional and professional growth.
  • Choreograph several dance routines for two culminating presentations, mid-year and end of the year, showcasing students work.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Create a youth development, strength?s based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.
  • Arrange, setup, operate and clean classroom spaces before and after activities. Organize inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.
  • Document classes/workshop through lesson plans in advanced or as required.
  • Coordinate presentations for two culminating events (one per semester) showcasing students work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Some college and experience with adolescents preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience and/or training relevant to the position required.
  • Must be able to engage young people while setting structure and limits in a group setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be committed to work from a social group work, strengths-based and youth development perspective.
