JOB SUMMARY:

The Public Services Supervisor?s main duties are to assist in all circulation and public services activities, including supervising Service Desk student aids. Provide operational support for library service locations. This position could participate in interlibrary loan processing. Participate in and/or lead projects, cross-departmental initiatives, and the work of the team to ensure the success of NEC?s teaching, learning, and performance goals. This individual reports to the Library Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Oversee all circulation functions.
  • Oversee the circulation and shelving of the collection by assisting in locating and charging/discharging library materials.
  • Assist in the maintenance of shelf order; coordinate and participate in shelf-reading of all materials.
  • Evaluate condition of collection materials and recommend replacements when appropriate.
  • Maintain class reserves.
  • Assist in selecting print, audiovisual, and electronic materials to support the academic and performance needs of NEC students and faculty.
  • Assist in maintenance of online patron records; add, revise, and delete approximately 1,000 records annually.
  • Interpret, recommend, and enforce library circulation policy.
  • Process gifts as needed.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise approximately two dozen student aids.
  • Assist faculty, students, and staff on the use of the library materials and the library catalog.
  • As a member of the Public Services team, provide assistance with library hardware and personal devices such as computers, photocopiers/printers, and laptops, including software and social media sites.
  • Create and update content to enhance and enliven the library?s website and other social media.
  • Staff Service Desk, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned as part of the Public Services Team.
  • Occasional night/weekend hours may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Music degree required.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with integrated library systems such as Voyager.
  • Knowledge of and experience with software such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Bibliographic knowledge of one or more Western European languages (especially French, German, and Italian).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a focus on details.
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Ability to pay rigorous attention to detail.
  • Punctuality and reliability are essential.
