The Elementary Library Specialist collaborates with teaching staff in the development of student literacy and creation of student imagination. Provide specialized instruction to students and educate them on how to look up resources and where to find them within the library. Oversee the selection, organization, utilization, and maintenance of the library. Ensure that students are effective users of ideas and information and that they are utilizing resources properly. Collaborate with the principal and assistant principal along with the elementary technology specialist to coordinate library and educational technology programs. Interact daily with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
DUTIES
Introduce students to literature and put books into the hands of children to explore and enjoy.
Gets to know students' interests and connects them to books that spark interest.
Introduce students to a variety of genres.
Teach students how to use certain resources (IE: how to create bibliographies, how to research different topics within the computer search engines, where to find fiction and non-fiction reading material).
Distribute and organize new information in regard to new arrivals (IE: books, magazines, online resource catalogs).
Implement activities such as book fairs, library word search/treasure hunt, character dress up day, etc.
Educate students and teachers on how to access information in a variety of formats.
Maintain the school's library collection of books, documents, audiovisual publications, etc.
Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
Conduct that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior
Ongoing affirmation of, alignment with and support of CRISTA's Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent. Experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree as long as the Bachelor's degree is scheduled to be completed within a 1 year of hire. K-8 Elementary Education Endorsement.
EXPERIENCE
Successful experience working with children as well as working inside a classroom. Ability to teach, model, and advocate for students and staff.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Washington State Teacher Certification
CPR/FIRST AID/AED Certified
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Demonstrate ability to collaborate successfully with staff and students.
