College Health and Fitness Science instructor with teaching duties in Community Development and Public Services School. Responsibilities also include active participation in departmental work on curriculum design, assessment, and andragogy/pedagogy. This is a 9-month teaching position that requires your presence on campus for teaching responsibilities, office hours, and any other required departmental/college-wide activities. Teaching assignments will be for day, evening, and/or weekend classes. Classes will be assigned at on-campus and off-campus teaching sites (e.g., high school locations) in addition to online environments.

Examples of Duties



Provide effective instruction to students online and/or in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance textbooks and lessons, using effective evaluation methods to evaluate student performance.



Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, providing information about additional resources outside of class, and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner so as to promote student success.



Support curriculum development by participating in the creation and evaluation of courses, curriculum, and programs, participating in program advisory committees, attending departmental meetings, and serving as backup for other faculty members.



Promote the success of the college by participating in standing and/or ad hoc committees and following college professional and ethical guidelines.



Maintain teaching and work environment (classroom, lab, shop) by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.



Stay current in chosen field and teaching methodology by meeting or exceeding all institutional professional development guidelines, participating in professional development workshops and seminars, and participating in professional organizations and reading journals related to teaching in the fields of teaching Health, Physical Education and Health and Fitness Science field.



Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, information for accreditation, and other important data and submit reports according to college policies.

Frequent walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time.



Frequent communications, verbal and written.



Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.



Qualifications



Master's degree in Exercise Science or Health and Physical Education, or a closely related field required. If Masters is in a closely related field, the applicant must have at least 18 graduate hours in Exercise Science and/or Health, and/or Physical Education.



Course work in exercise physiology, Kinesiology, pedagogy, and personal training is a plus. American College of Sports Medicine Certification in personal training is highly desirable. Additional credentialing within the field of Exercise Science is beneficial. Course work in the adolescent learner and the adult learner, course work in educational leadership, and course work in educational technology are all highly desirable. Experience teaching Exercise Science and Health and Physical Education is required. Experience with using instructional technology is required. Experience teaching in both high school and college environments is a plus. Work experience as a certified personal trainer is desirable.

Finalists who interview will be asked to teach a 10-12 minute lesson on a topic supplied in advance of the interview.



Copies of all unofficial degree transcripts, including coursework completed and degree conferred, must be provided during the on-line application process. Official transcripts are required to be forwarded to the CVCC Human Resources Office upon hire.
