Job description: SUMMARY: The Elementary Behavior Coach provides behavioral expertise through consultation, coaching, presentations, classroom support related to instructional and behavioral interventions/strategies for school staff implementing services to students who display complex needs.
This position is funded using grant dollars.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

Planning and Preparation
  • Supports district in building capacity in serving students with complex needs
  • Conduct positive behavior support presentations, training, and professional development within the district
  • Remain up to date on behavioral research and disseminate to staff as appropriate to facilitate the utilization of evidenced-based practices
  • Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students, targeted students and students who represent sub-group populations
Instruction
  • Assist staff in defining and measuring target behavior, determining the function of behavior, teaching replacement behavior, understanding principles of reinforcement, and implementing strategies for decreasing problem behavior, documenting this process through the completion of functional behavior assessments and positive behavior support plans.
  • Ability to set-up appropriate program of reinforcement with the student regardless of his/her level of achievement using long-range objectives and short-term objectives.
  • Use of behavioral data collection system such as frequency, duration, time sampling, daily behavior rating, etc.
  • Graphing and analysis of behavioral data to make informed decisions.
  • Provide modeling, coaching, feedback, and fidelity checks with school teams/specific staff in relation to student?s positive behavior support plan.
  • Support monitoring fidelity of student plans through collaboration with the school team.
  • Collaborate with school psychologists in order to support evaluations and student programming.
  • Facilitate school-based team meetings throughout the process of designing and implementation of positive behavior support plans.
  • Knowledge of the process of district research based behavioral programming and supporting documents.
  • Support the collaboration between agencies and school teams to ensure alignment of programming and student?s individualized education plans implemented in the classroom.
  • Use of discrete trial training, natural environment teaching, incidental teaching, prompting/fading, functional communication training, social skills instruction, behavior skills training, and reinforcement.
  • Establish knowledge about district curriculum and interventions to coach and model the balance between learning and behavior plans.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Follow Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) procedures.
  • Meets and instructs in the assigned location and at the time designated.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of supports provided.
  • Evaluates student/program progress on designated basis
  • Implements, by instruction and action, the district?s philosophy of educational goals and objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Attends and participates in department meetings and district wide Professional Learning Communities.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administration regulations, and board policy. Implements, by instruction and action, the district?s philosophy of educational goals and objectives.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all district and state policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classrooms, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Provide professional development to staff, including training on crisis response procedures. The behavior coach must be able to model and implement all components of the crisis prevention and incident minimization curriculum.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:
  • Bachelor?s degree in one of the following areas: elementary or secondary education, applied behavior analysis, special education, psychology, and/or social work or related field
  • Valid ND Teaching certificate with special education endorsement (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong background in positive behavioral supports and MTSS systems
  • High interest in serving students with complex behaviors
  • Experience working with special education students
  • Effective communication skills both expressive and receptive
  • Ability to squat, walk briskly when needed, stand, kneel, and lift a minimum of 20 pounds
  • Ability to see and hear
Preferred:
  • Candidates who are Board Certified Behavior Analysts or in the process of obtaining the credential
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Experience working with individuals who display challenging behaviors
  • Coursework in psychology, social work, or applied behavior analysis
SALARY: Commensurate with experience and education level, the position follows the if the individual has a ND educator's license.
West Fargo Public Schools offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package. The annual salary listed for this position is the base cash salary and excludes retirement contributions. For all professional/licensed staff, the district funds both the employee contribution (11.75%) and the employer contribution (12.75%) to the teachers' fund for retirement (TFFR).
