Job description:
  • Plays piano and keyboard instruments for curricular high school vocal music groups at all rehearsals and performances, both during the school day and for events outside of school hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Plays piano and keyboard instruments for additional school-related soloist and small ensemble rehearsals and performances, both during the school day and for events outside of school hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Leads small group and sectional rehearsals as directed by the vocal music teacher
  • Leads rehearsals in absence of the vocal music teacher (with certified substitute teacher also in the classroom actively supervising students).
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to duties such as music library organization & filing, assisting the vocal music teacher with financial accounting & clerical support, creating practice and performance recordings, and potentially assisting teacher of record with non-performance classes (e.g.: theory, technology, piano).
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to play music of varied styles and types, including but not limited to the following: classical, light opera, musical theatre (both traditional and contemporary), jazz, rock, and current popular music
  • Ability to read and play open scoring with as many as 6 staves
  • Ability to read and play piano reductions of instrumental compositions
  • Ability to read and improvise accompaniments using chord charts and lead sheets
  • Ability to read and play single and multiple vocal parts in the creative process
  • Ability to sight read and learn music for multiple ensembles and soloists quickly
  • Ability to accept and implement artistic direction of the vocal music director and other colleagues in the creative process in a professional and collaborative manner
  • Ability and willingness to respond positively to supervision
  • Positive, professional communication skills and appearance with students, staff, parents, and community
Working Conditions:
Level I-$19,697 Annually; Level II-$21,226 Annually (Additional compensation for hours beyond regular school day)
10 Month Work Year. Starting date is first day of school for 2023/24.
