Job description: General Description of Position:

The Success Coach coaches, guides and assists new and current students enrolled in the To the Finish Line program to recognize their potential, maximize their academic and experiential learning, make informed academic decisions based on life and career goals, overcome barriers to achieve their desired credential at Ivy Tech, and successfully transition to the workforce.

The Success Coach assists students in their growth and development by constructing meaningful personal development plans which are compatible with their life and educational goals. Primary areas of focus include life coaching, career planning in collaboration with Career Coaches, case management support, and facilitation of crisis mitigation assistance through the Community Partners network.

The position ends with the end of the grant expected to be August 30, 2024. There is a possibility, but not guaranteed, that the grant may be extended beyond this period and if so the position may be extended.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with campus Ivy+Careers, Enrollment Services, and Academics to coordinate and/or propose plans to meet and exceed student needs.
  • Fosters persistence and completion by maintaining a caseload of To the Finish Line students.
  • Monitors progress of students in caseload with coaching sessions, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, and responding to student questions, concerns and needs.
  • Aids students in establishing personal development plans aligned with educational goals.
  • Identifies and mitigates obstacles that may be impeding academic success by deploying crisis mitigation assistance provided by the Community Partners Network.
  • Assesses and processes tuition assistance/scholarship awards to eligible students.
  • Assists students in developing self-efficacy by working with students to learn strong time management and organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic success.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with external Academic Accountability Partner to provide academic coaching and the implementation of student response action plans for at-risk students.
  • Refers students to appropriate academic personnel and support resources and collaborates with others to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the students referred.
  • Work collaboratively across college departments and external community partners that have a diverse faculty/staff teams with the view towards increasing student engagement and retention.
  • Gather and compile data to prepare weekly reports on client services and outcomes.
  • Develops deep understanding and appreciation of Student Success Coaching best practices.
  • Travel between the three Lake County Campus locations (East Chicago, Gary, and Crown Point) to meet service needs with clients.
  • This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned.
  • All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree is required with one (1) to three (3) years' related work experience OR
  • Associate degree with industry related certification along with three (3) to four (4) years' related work experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and detail-oriented skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Commitment to student learning outcomes, staff development, and diversity required.
  • Proven and successful track record of strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to effectively and professionally engage people with empathy and tact.
  • Must be especially comfortable with high levels of inbound/outbound calls, emails and texts with online students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of (2) years' experience in student services within a higher education or adult education environment strongly preferred or similar experience in customer service/public relations
Other Requirements:
  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Meet required in-person meetings and office hours at a partner site and/or campus location.
