Job description: SUMMARY: Provides intensive support to novice ESOL teachers. Provides assistance in the development and implementation of the Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) ESOL curriculum and instructional program. Ensures that all initiatives support the system-wide goals identified in the system?s strategic plan. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Provides support to new teachers and chairpersons through coaching, co-teaching, and model teaching.
  • Assists in the development and delivery of coursework on linguistics and second language learning.
  • Supports collaboration across departments and offices for the delivery of countywide and school based ESOL professional development.
  • Assists the ESOL team in identifying curricular and instructional needs and provides appropriate services to schools.
  • Assists with the introduction of BCPS ESOL curriculum and provides training and support to teachers on its implementation.
  • Provides support in the development and administration of local assessments and final exams.
  • Assists with the evaluation, selection, and ordering of approved textbooks, instructional materials, and software for schools.
  • Remains current with federal and state guidelines for ESOL programs.
  • Research current best practices and successful local and national practices especially in the areas of blended learning, proficiency assessment, and constructivist pedagogy.?
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor?s degree. Three years of successful ESOL teaching experience. Experience in developing curriculum and designing and implementing professional development. Master?s degree preferred.

Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Professional Certificate with an endorsement in ESOL. Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of second language acquisition and ESOL.
Knowledge of current research-based instructional practices in ESOL.
Technology facility and understanding of the role of technology in the ESOL classroom.
Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications.
Knowledge of and skill in data analysis especially in student achievement and gap analysis.
Demonstration of outstanding oral and written communications skills.
Demonstration of strong leadership, communication, and human relations skills.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The work of this class is generally sedentary and is generally performed in an office or classroom environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities. This position generally involves extensive travel throughout Baltimore County, meeting with school staff, presentations, and observing or teaching classes.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work may include evenings.
**This is a grant funded position, contingent upon annual renewal. As such, you will be required to sign an acknowledgement form with the understanding that if the grant is not funded beyond the current year, you will be reassigned to a position based upon the stipulations within the appropriate Master Agreement that is in effect at the time of the reassignment.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $106. The price of fingerprinting is $106 through June 30, 2203. As of July 1, 2023 the cost will be $109. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
