Purpose/Description

The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, is seeking adjunct faculty to join our Master of Science Occupational Therapy Program that includes new academic curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, and community partnerships through experientials and interprofessional education. The Department is committed to hiring and retaining individuals of varying identities and experiences. Adjunct positions routinely become available in classroom teaching and clinical instruction. Classroom teaching involves 8-week intensive courses focused on occupation-centered practice across the lifespan. Clinical instruction is completed through the on-campus maurices Community Clinic (mCC), an interdisciplinary clinic where students receive supervised hands-on experience working with uninsured or underinsured individuals.
Key Results/Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching and/or clinical instruction within the occupational therapy curriculum, which may include:
  • Independent teaching with various approaches to support learning styles (hands-on instruction, modeling, lecture, small and large group discussion facilitation)
  • Assist in instruction of courses
  • Supervise in clinical experiences
  • Teach through modeling and supportive feedback for clinical experiences
  • Advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in various settings (e.g. classroom, clinic, community) and with diverse populations (students, clients, and colleagues)
  • Prepare online course materials in learning management system and Google drive
  • Prepare, administer, assess, and follow-up for exams and/or assignments
  • Grade assignments, activities, competencies/practicals (e.g. weekly feedback of clinic observation, reflection papers, in-class presentations, assessment competency)
  • Provide office hours for students (typical frequency is one hour per week for each course)
  • Provide routine and timely feedback on student performance and professional identity development
  • Participate in teaching improvement strategies
  • Adhere to the course schedule and teach within the mode assigned for courses (in-person, online, hybrid)

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Master's degree in occupational therapy
  • If applicant holds a Master's degree, applicant must meet the CSS Equivalent Exchange requirements:
  • Additional professional credential (i.e. CHT, AOTA board certification) and a minimum of 2 years of professional experience working in an area related to course content OR
  • If no additional credential, a minimum of 4 years of professional experience working in an area related to course content
  • Current OT license in Minnesota or eligible for licensure in Minnesota
Preferred Qualifications
  • Entry-level doctorate, research doctorate (PhD, EdD, ScD) or post-professional doctorate in occupational therapy with minimum of 1 year experience as an occupational therapy practitioner.
  • Experience as a fieldwork educator with Level I or Level II fieldwork students
  • Experience teaching and evaluating adult learners
  • Experience with telehealth occupational therapy services
Special Instructions to Applicants

Applications will be reviewed as teaching needs arise. Courses occur in fall semester (September to December), spring semester (January to May), or summer term (June and July). Employment is based on course specific needs each semester or term.

Employment conditions require individuals to complete required adjunct faculty training as assigned and required based on the role. Offers are conditional pending successful background check and administrative approval of equivalence exchange if an individual holds a Master's degree in occupational therapy.

Pay rate

$1000 per credit for undergraduate courses; $1325 per credit for graduate courses
