The Department is seeking a practitioner who can lead and grow our Dance program. This position will teach, mentor, and contribute creative and/or scholarly research from deep experience and training.

FAU is centrally located in the South Florida region in a vibrant and very active theatre and film community. The department produces seven shows per year in the academic unit, two shows through the Summer Repertory Theatre Program, and offers substantial professional opportunities to faculty and students working closely with the resident professional theatre company partner on campus, Theater LAB. The theatre department offers seven majors and two minors at the B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A. levels in Design and Technology, Performance, and Musical Theatre. The Department currently serves approximately 170 students a year including approximately 30 Dance Minors, 20 BFA Musical Theatre majors, 20 BFA Performance Majors, 20 Design and Technology Majors, and approximately 70 general majors. The department produces our productions through our four theatre spaces on campus, including a newly renovated 500 seat proscenium theatre, our 150 seat black box theatre, and two smaller 80 seat black box theatres. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in teaching classical and/or contemporary dance at all levels, providing evidence of anatomically sound and progressive/inclusive pedagogy. The candidate will be expected to communicate effectively and collaborate with other department members to support and advance the goals of the department.

The typical job responsibility for our dance professor is teaching a 3/2 load with release time for research and creative activities which may include choregraphing, coordinating, and creating work for departmental projects. This position will also serve as the mentor/advisor for dance minors and other recruitment/committee work for the college.

FAU?s Department of Theatre and Dance believes dance is for everybody. We strive to expand the meanings and experiences of dance as a field of study and a living art form. Strong classical training is valued as is continuing to decenter Western concert dance so that the department supports a diversity of dance traditions and ways of understanding dance across a variety of communities and cultures. Additionally, we structured our program so that it is accessible to any student - with or without prior dance training - interested in the study and practice of dance.
