GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Faculty Diversity Fellowship Program, in support of the College's commitment to diversity and inclusion, promotes and advances the careers of exceptional scholars from underrepresented groups and is designed to increase the racial and ethnic diversity of its faculty. The Faculty Diversity Fellowship Program helps to ensure that the faculty body is reflective of the student body and the communities we serve. The one-year program provides each fellow with opportunities for teaching, student engagement, peer mentoring, and professional development as educators and scholars.

Since its inception in 2007, the College has been enriched by the program through innovative curricula, scholarship, student connections, and advances in cultural competencies and awareness. The underpinnings of divergent academic interests, cultural backgrounds, and professional experiences, together with the presence of diverse faculty role models, contribute greatly to the success of all students.

In line with the goals of the Faculty Diversity fellowship program, the Online Learning Librarian Diversity Fellow position aims to increase the racial and ethnic diversity of the College's non-teaching faculty and broaden access to the librarian profession. The Online Learning Librarian Diversity Fellow is expected to collaborate with college partners, including the virtual campus, to promote the development and delivery of teaching and learning supports in the online environment. The Online Learning Librarian will support the library e-resources life cycle including acquisition, access management, renewal, and cancellations. The librarian engages in library service planning, assessment, college service, and professional development. The Online Learning Librarian works collaboratively to provide direct support to all students through reference and instructional services.

HOURS: This is a full-time, 12-month position and requires some evening and weekend work.

*This position has College-wide responsibilities and requires travel between multiple campuses, off-site and partner locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Provide reference service to all students, including learners at a distance, and faculty, staff, and community members as requested or scheduled.
  • Deliver in-person and online library orientations, outreach, and information literacy instruction.
  • Serve as a liaison for assigned departments and academic divisions, including the virtual campus, and develop and maintain library collections for those areas.
  • Provide service to the College and represent the College in the community as delineated in the collective bargaining agreement and faculty promotion guidelines.
  • Collaborate with librarian colleagues and the teaching faculty to develop and maintain online teaching and learning objects including tutorials, instructional videos, research guides, and learning activities to be delivered in the online environment.
  • Facilitate the integration of library resources and services into the learning management system and ensure compliance with ADA guidelines.
  • Manage the e-resources life cycle including acquisitions, access, renewal, and cancellation.
  • Update, customize, and maintain e-resource and discovery tool configurations and interfaces, and work with Information Technology to update the proxy server.
  • Analyze usage and other data to prepare reports, inform selection and cancellation decisions, and project expenditures.
  • Maintain vendor relationships, contracts and licensing, establish trials, and work with library team to evaluate the collection on an ongoing basis.Engage in library services assessment and incorporate results in planning and individual professional development.
  • Engage in ongoing learning and professional development that promotes currency in discipline knowledge.
  • Attend scheduled divisional, departmental, and general faculty and staff meetings, and participate in faculty professional development day, convocation and commencement as required by the contract.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Recent graduate holding a Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Either one year of experience managing aspects of a library's electronic resource life-cycle, or equivalent combination of training, education, internships, assistantships, or practicums.
  • Either one year of experience delivering reference and/or instructional services in an academic library setting, or equivalent combination of training, education, internships, assistantships, or practicums.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and reformat data to produce accurate reporting using a variety of interfaces and tools, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Member of an underrepresented group.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with vendor representatives to ensure and improve access and discovery.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience with authentication and proxy configurations, links resolvers, and discovery systems.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of computers and technology in a college environment.
  • Evidence of continued professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work with diverse populations, such as under-resourced groups and first-generation students.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a comprehensive community college philosophy.

  • The Librarian Diversity Fellow will receive mentoring from academic support colleagues, including the Dean and a designated librarian mentor, and will have opportunities to interact with other Diversity Fellows on campus.
  • The Librarian Diversity Fellow will be granted time for off-site visits with other online learning and e-resources librarians in the local and regional area.
  • Assuming a successful fellowship year and positive evaluation by supervisor(s), the faculty diversity fellow will be eligible for appointment to a full-time, tenure track position in the year following the completed fellowship year.
