The Kent Elementary school TEAM believes in daily excellence from students and staff. We serve a culturally diverse population of students from Kindergarten through 5th grades. Kent Elementary is located at 24700 64th Avenue South in the downtown Kent area. Our average enrollment is 650 students with approximately 4 classes per grade level. The school enjoys strong support with 1 full-time instructional interventionist, an ELL Instruction coach, an ESSER Instructional Coach, band/music/orchestra teachers, physical education specialists, librarian, counselor and psychologist. Special programs at Kent Elementary include: dual language programming, an Inclusive Education Support Center, school-wide Title/LAP program, Paraeducator academic intervention support in classrooms, Odyssey [highly capable] programs for 3rd through 5th, ACE for 1st and 2nd, and English Language Learner support in classrooms. Kent Elementary offers some of the most up to date technology for instruction and learning. The staff is extremely welcoming, collaborative and innovative with diverse experiences. It is a community with high expectations for all students and staff.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This position will serve as a school success coach that focuses primarily on student learning as a means to improve the achievement of all students and student groups. The position will provide support for increasing teacher capacity and provide assistance in closing the achievement gap by implementing research-based instructional, social emotional and behavioral practices grounded in student achievement data. This coach will also provide guidance and direction of instruction, social emotional and behavior support for students based on student achievement data aligned with the School Improvement Plan.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to strengthen and expand the instructional, social-emotional, and behavioral interactions in the classroom:
  • Coordinate ongoing opportunities for teachers to learn from each other collaboratively.
  • Collaborate with district learning improvement communities (Teaching and Learning, Academic Support, Organizational Effectiveness, Human Resources) to provide professional development opportunities to staff in whole group and small group settings with modeling and guided practice.
  • Plan, coordinate, and provide in-service training and technical assistance for certificated and classified staff in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (both academic and behavior) and related research-based methodologies for systematic, differentiated instruction (curriculum, assessment, instructional data collection, analysis, and decision-making) and teaming.
  • Assist in achieving Blueprint metrics at the school level by assisting in collecting and analyzing student and building-level data and utilizing the data for instructional decision-making.
  • Partner with educators to engage in coaching cycles.
  • Increase teacher repertoire of high-impact instructional, social emotional and behavioral strategies to meet the needs of all types of learners.
  • Share best blended learning practices using online lessons and curricular resources.
  • Initiate and develop high impact teaching models (co-teaching, collaborative teaching, direct instruction, etc.).
  • Continuously grow personal professional practice and knowledge base by participating in frequent instructional coach professional learning.
  • Foster a positive school culture for learning through demonstration of beliefs about student learning and growth mindset.
  • Build a strong rapport with all teachers as a reflective curricular partner.
OTHER JOB DUTIES:
  • Complete, in a timely fashion, all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the administration.
  • Work cooperatively with building and district staff.
  • Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain a safe working condition and safely operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a public school environment with occasional travel to district and community sites; required to adjust to shifting priorities; may occasionally deal with situations involving conflict and uncertainty; work varied hours. Sitting, standing, bending and occasional lifting, up to 25 pounds.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Appropriate Washington State certification is required and must be on file prior to beginning work
  • Three years demonstrated instructional skills as a results-driven classroom teacher
  • Demonstrated skills as a teacher leader
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred for DL school

  • Experience in analyzing data to identify appropriate instructional practices and interventions
  • Experiences in effective facilitation skills for various professional learning experiences including adult learning theory.

  • Knowledgeable about Washington State Learning Standards and current with research-based instructional practices
  • Ability to effectively model, co-teach, and co-plan with teachers
  • Instructional and social-emotional/behavior coaching and/or mentoring experience
  • Excellent technology skills and can use and incorporate computers/technology into curriculum and instruction
  • Maintain a positive learning environment and have the ability to relate to all students, parents, and colleagues
  • Team player with excellent management and communication skills
  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching techniques
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in education required, master's degree preferred.
  • Proven successful experience in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics interventions preferred.
  • Proven successful experience in ethnically diverse public school districts preferred.
  • Proven successful experience in working and learning in a Professional Learning Community.
Employment eligibility may include fingerprints, health (TB), and/or other employment clearance.

Licensing and Certification
