60% Student Support and Engagement


  • Provide academic and personal success coaching/consultation for up to 150 students per semester to develop holistic academic success plans with students that include development of personal and academic goals.

  • Serve as a student concierge for KU Student Success Team members including students' assigned academic advisor, financial aid advisor, and faculty members.

  • Execute scheduled student outreach campaigns via phone, text and email to assure early student connections are made before and after new student orientation and beyond.

  • Directly connect students to academic support services such as study strategies, time management and organization, critical thinking, test preparation, note taking skills, self-monitoring skills as needed.

  • Utilize proactive approaches for communicating with and scheduling meetings with students with the goal of offering touch points at least three times per semester.

  • Document and maintain all communication with students resulting from appointments, email, phone, and walk-ins using university-approved systems.

  • Develop rapport and productive relationships with students by creating a community of care with a welcoming environment for students to grow and thrive.

  • Collaborate with campus partners to support and link students as necessary.

25% Programming and Peer Mentor Support

  • Collaborate with the Hawk Link Success Team to develop a student program plan that supports the student learning outcomes for Academic Success in highly relevant ways for Hawk Link students. Event coordination includes marketing, student communication, execution and assessment for each program scheduled.

  • Supervise, train, and assess up to 5 student peer mentors per academic semester who will assist in planning and executing the programming plans for student populations. This includes approving timesheets in accordance with university policy.

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of Jayhawk JumpStart, Hawk Week, and additional Hawk Link programming.

  • Coordinate, facilitate and attend peer mentor staff meetings, training, and professional development in conjunction with other Hawk Link Coordinators.

10% Facilitation and Instruction

  • Serve as the instructor on record for academic courses offered for Hawk Link students such as UNIV 101.

  • Collaborate with Academic Success units to provide academic skills workshops for students.

  • Develop online training modules and interactive success guides to be utilized by the Hawk Link Success Team and students.

5% Other Duties as assigned by Academic Success Leadership

  • Attend relevant staff meetings and trainings related to Academic Success Initiatives.

  • Use University-approved systems for all student records and adhere to Academic Success technology use standards and FERPA guidelines.

  • May supervise student staff.

  • Serve on departmental and campus committees as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned by Academic Success Leadership.

Work Schedule

Required Qualifications



  • Master's Degree OR Bachelor's Degree with one (1) year of relevant experience.

  • One (1) year of experience working with underserved populations.

  • One (1) year of experience working directly with students or clients in a higher education or related setting.

  • Experience creating and facilitating student events, workshops, or other student engagement opportunities.

  • Excellent written communications skills as demonstrated by cover letter and resume.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's Degree in education, counseling, psychology, special education, social work, liberal arts, or related field.

  • Experience in academic support services, advising or academic coaching services.

  • Academic Coaching Certification in higher education administration, student personnel or related field (CRLA/ATP/NCLA).

  • Experience working collaboratively with other units in a university setting.

  • Experience with underserved student populations in higher education setting.

  • Previous experience supervising students or staff.

  • Experience with web-based student retention software such as EAB/Navigate.

  • Prior instructional experience such as teaching/facilitating new student courses.

Position Overview



Hawk Link Coordinators at the University of Kansas assist the coordination of Hawk Link initiatives centering first-generation college students, Pell-eligible college students, and students of color, through intentional educational opportunities designed to foster academic success and belonging. Through holistic engagement and culturally relevant support, the Hawk Link Coordinator will provide academic and personal success guidance and connections to students that align with institutional/unit/division retention initiatives.



The Hawk Link Coordinator will cultivate opportunities designed to facilitate a successful transition into the academic and social community at KU, from pre-enrollment to graduation and beyond. Reporting to the Director of Equity and Success Initiatives, this position assists students with navigating campus, identifying campus resources, and linking students to educational opportunities in conjunction with the Hawk Link Success Team and other professional staff within Equity and Success Initiatives.



Equity and Success Initiatives include Hawk Link, Hawk Link Peer Mentoring, Jayhawk JumpStart, Multicultural Scholars Program (MSP), Native American Initiatives (NAI), Haskell/KU Exchange Program, and the KC Scholars, Hispanic Development Fund Scholars, and Larsen Scholars.
