Job description: Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Fitness Programs, this position assists in the development and management of the program units of Group Fitness, Personal Training and Pilates, and if needed, Recreational Sports and Outdoor Programs at UCSF. The incumbent is responsible for assisting program planning and management, coordinating staff scheduling, facility operations, managing risk and safety, and program promotions as it relates to the identified program area. This position as needed, will substitute fitness classes and/or workshops.This position in coordination with the Assistant Director of Fitness Programs, performs in-depth analysis and works as a team or independently to administer complex existing projects/programs and contributes to service enhancements/improvements. The incumbent must be aware of current industry trends and have field experience. The incumbent will implement, and supervise safe and effective programs for UCSF students, Fitness & Recreation members, and the UCSF community; and perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to maintenance and management of equipment and facilities

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Degree in fitness management/exercise physiology, recreation related field and/or equivalent combination of professional certification and experience.
- Red Cross CPR & AED required (active or obtained within 3 months of hire).
- Standard First Aid Training Certification required (active or obtained within 3 months of hire).
- Nationally recognized fitness/health/wellness certification (ACE, ACSM, NASM or other nationally recognized certification (active or obtained within 1 year of hire)
- Knowledge of program activity and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally.
- Uses creative problem solving to deliver strong service orientation, program management, and sound judgment and decision-making; uses critical thinking skills to develop original ideas in a varied and challenging environment.
- Client service minded focus, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of basic computer applications relevant to job duties.
- Ability to develop and lead/manage customer driven programs and services.
- Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.
- 1 year management experience and/or 1 year in professional Fitness Management and experience as a personal trainer or group fitness instructor
