The City of Eugene Library, Recreation and Cultural Services Department's Recreation Program provides accessible recreation opportunities for all ages in a fun, safe, and positive environment. The following temporary positions will be filled from this job posting:



Aquatics Fitness Instructor: $13.50 - $25.33 hourly

Athletic Worker: $13.50 - $15.53 hourly

Front Desk / Skilled Clerk: $14.75 - $23.60 hourly

Lifeguard: $14.20 - $16.31 hourly

Recreation Activity Coordinator: $14.44 - $20.21 hourly

Recreation Activity Instructor (Includes Fitness and Outdoor Instructors): $13.50 - $25.33 hourly

Recreation Activity Leader: $14.20 - $16.31 hourly

Swim Instructor: $13.50 - $19.25 hourly

Varies dependent on role and season, anywhere from 6 - 40 hrs per week.

Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following



Aquatics Fitness Instructor Plans, leads, and oversees recreational activities such as Aqua Tone, Senior Fitness, Aquatic Body Conditioning, and Aqua Zumba. Creates course outlines and provides instruction in various types of aquatic exercise. Interacts professionally and politely with patrons and other staff members. Enforces aquatic safety rules and regulations and may respond to emergencies. For a complete list of duties, see the



Athletics Worker Serves as liaison with community school coordinators and/or school facilitators at respective work sites. Opens facility with sufficient time to accomplish pre-activity tasks. Inspects facility for damaged equipment and/or unsafe playing conditions. Sets up all equipment required for scheduled activities. Sweeps gym floors before, and after, each scheduled activity. Reports lost or damaged equipment to the athletic staff. Closes and cleans facility following the last scheduled activity of the day. Promptly reports names of problem participants and/or spectators to the Athletic Division. Courteously assists participants and the public. Notifies athletic staff of changes in school activities which conflict with City programs; participants of cancellations and/or changes in regularly scheduled activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.



Front Desk / Skilled Clerk



Assists in checking in guests, conducting financial transactions, and assists in general clerical duties. Provides excellent customer service to guests, answers general questions and inquires, and assists in completing daily reports. Enforces facility security and safety rules and performs minor custodial duties. For a complete list of duties, see the .



Lifeguard



Responsible for the safety and enjoyment of patrons and staff; provides aquatics recreation classes; enforces safety rules, maintains facilities, and supports aquatics recreation management with effectively managing the daily facility operations and activities. Recreation Activity Coordinator Assists with the implementation of recreation programs at the community center, school, or other program sites; coordinates and teaches daily recreation activities to youth. For a complete description of duties, see the .



Recreation Activity Instructor Instructs groups between preschool age and seniors in courses such as: fitness, music, arts, martial arts, gymnastics, dance, science, cuisine, educational workshops, wellness, gardening, computers, consumer issues, and outdoor activities. Includes Inclusion Specialists that assist children with support needs in our programs. This position may be filled at the , , or level depending on qualifications and experience.



Recreation Activity Leader Assists with implementation of recreation programs; coordinates and teaches day-to-day activities; provides a safe environment and promotes and encourages inclusion and provides a positive experience for patrons. For a complete description of duties, see the



Swim Instructor Plans, leads, and oversees swim lessons for groups of swimmers between 3 months and 14 years of age. Creates course outlines and provides instruction in swimming techniques. Interacts with swimmers, parents, and other staff members politely and professionally. Enforces aquatic safety rules and regulations and may respond to emergencies. Qualifications



Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. All Positions Current First Aid and CPR certificates or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Must pass a background check.



Some assignments may require a valid Oregon driver's license or, the ability to obtain by date of hire. If driving is an essential job function, the candidate must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City's standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).



Aquatics Fitness Instructor This position may be filled at the Instructor 2 or Instructor 3 Levels depending on experience and qualifications.

Lifeguard Must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid Certification by date of hire. Must possess or obtain before work begins American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification and Preventing Disease transmission Certificate.

Applicants without current certification can with the City of Eugene.

Certification in American Red Cross Automated External Defibrillation and American Red Cross Oxygen Administration for the professional rescuer preferred but not required.

Recreation Activity Coordinator In addition to qualifications listed under All Positions, high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented by 1 year (full-time equivalency) experience of recreation program planning and or coordination in a certified child care facility, youth center, or recreation agency or organization. Selection Process: Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training.
