Job description: JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Director of Auxiliary Programs and Business Development, this
position manages campus recreation and campus events. The Coordinator collaborates with
various areas of the college--including academic, advancement, athletic, operations, and student
affairs--to successfully execute campus recreation and event activities. This position also
provides administrative support to the Director of Auxiliary Programs and Business
Development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Campus Recreation
1. Directs and administers all aspects of campus recreation programs, services, and
operations. This includes campus recreation and intramural programs. As it relates
to campus recreation and events, this position is responsible for the operational
supervision of the following areas:
a. N.E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center (TARC)
i. Control Room and Welcome Desk
ii. Dance Studio
iii. Rockwall
iv. Semler Fitness Center

2. This position directly supervises two part-time Graduate Assistants and
approximately 30 student and seasonal employees under the direction of the
Director of Auxiliary Programs and Business Development.

3. Serves as a primary building representative with Facilities and Environmental
Services personnel regarding building services and maintenance of the TARC to

maintain a clean, well-maintained facility for use by students, staff, faculty, and
community.

4. Under the direction of the Director of Auxiliary Programs and Business
Development, interpret, revise, or propose policies while assisting students,
faculty, staff, and community members by making day-to-day decisions regarding
campus recreation activities.

5. Responsible for the development of emergency and risk management plans as
well as the creation of annual goals, reports, and summaries for campus
recreation.

6. Serves as an advisor and primary point of contact for campus recreation and
intramural programming.

Events

1. Coordinates logistical support consistent with Carthage College's mission,
strategic initiatives, values, and event management policies while performing the
following administrative duties:
a. Hires, trains, mentors, and evaluates high-performing student and seasonal
team members under the direction of the Director of Auxiliary Program and Business Development.
b. Provides administrative and operational support to the Director of Auxiliary Programs and Business Development.
c. Cultivates positive campus partnerships, client retention, and vendor relationships.

2. Provides strategic event planning assistance to internal and external clients;
works with a team of College event planners, internal support
staff/departments, and vendors to meet the fiscal goals of the college related to
auxiliary programs.

3. Provides a high level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders--
focusing on increasing the quality of event experiences, enhancing College
recognition and reputation, and increasing College revenue whenever possible.

Miscellaneous

1. Serves on campus committees as requested.
2. Completes other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises two part-time Graduate Assistants and approximately 30 student and
seasonal employees under the direction of the Director of Auxiliary Programs and Business
Development. Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with college policies and applicable
employment laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees;
planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining
employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, and/or abilities.)

? Related Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution
? 3-5 years of full-time recreation/event coordination work experience
? Demonstrated competency using a PC: intermediate skill level using Microsoft Windows
operating system, Microsoft Office Suite applications, event scheduling database
software, and other computer service-specific applications
? Strong supervision skills with paid professional or paraprofessional employees
? Demonstrated emotional intelligence and ethical character to act as a role model for
employees and students and in representing Carthage College to faculty, staff, external
clients, governmental authorities, and other stakeholders
? Demonstrated problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
? Experience managing operational budgets, financial management, and reporting

Additional desired skills and qualities:
? Lifeguard/ Lifeguard Instructor Certification/ Water Safety Instructor Certification
? First Aid/CPR/AED/ First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification
? Any other Certifications related to campus recreation
? Demonstrates a high level of timely follow-through and attention to detail
? Strong organizational and writing skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

? Work is performed in an office environment and various campus venues. The employee
occasionally works outside when traveling to/from College or off-campus events. The
noise level in the work environment is moderate and typical of a shared office
environment.

? The coordinator is expected in the office to manage the tasks of the job Monday-Friday,
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (except during scheduled breaks) or according to a work schedule
arranged in advance and agreed upon by the Executive Director or the Student
Experience. Office hours may vary depending on the time of year and recreational
programming schedules.

? Professional attire is generally expected. Depending upon circumstances, event-
appropriate casual attire may be expected.

? The position is expected to require occasional evening and weekend work, staffing
large/VIP events, and providing direction to event staff as required.

? The position may require occasional travel to attend conferences, site tours, and/or
training courses.
