You will review, inspect and process new street additions and county bond projects and additions into the State Secondary System; ensure permit work zones are designed and implemented properly and traffic control is maintained according to guidelines; and respond to citizens, elected officials and local government officials regarding permit inquiries/concerns. Position will conduct on-site inspections for subdivision and permit projects; review site plans, special permits, rezoning request and land divisions; complete required paperwork to process permits and subdivision acceptance; and meet with applicants in the field, review project work zones and review/determine bond estimates.</p><br/><p><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong></p><br/><ul><li>Knowledge of highway construction and roadway maintenance procedures and land use permitting processes/procedures.</li><li>Ability to interpret VDOT Road and Bridge Standards and Specifications, VA Work Area Protection Manual, Access Management and Land Use Permit regulations, and Subdivision Street requirements.</li><li>Ability to read/interpret site plans, road construction plans, property plats, utility plans and sketches.</li><li>Ability to obtain necessary Materials Certifications needed within 12 months of employment.</li><li>Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.</li><li>Ability to creatively resolve challenging complaints.</li><li>Skill in setting priorities and multi-tasking.</li><li>Skill in operating computers (MS Office preferred).</li><li>Valid driver's license required.</li></ul><br/><p><strong>Additional Considerations</strong></p><br/><ul><li>Experience in roadway construction and maintenance activities.</li><li>Experience working with MUTCD, VA Work Area Protection Manual, Road Design Manual, VDOT Road and Bridge Standards and Specifications, Access Management Regulations and Land Use Manual.</li><li>Current possession of VDOT Material Certifications or ability to obtain certifications within 12 months in concrete/asphalt <li>Experience with processing land use permit applications and street acceptance packages.</li><li>Intermediate Work Zone certification preferred.</li></ul><br/><p><strong>Special Instructions</strong></p><br/><p>You will be provided a confirmation of receipt when your application and/or r sum is submitted successfully.
