This innovative and adaptive teaching role plans for and implements a social-emotional curriculum for all students across K-12 in a public school setting. Must be fully committed to the philosophy that "all children can and will learn" and be passionate about the intersection of social/behavioral wellbeing and academic learning for the overall success of students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
LICENSE: Must hold a valid Indiana State Teacher's License in Elementary or Secondary Education. Must be deemed Highly Qualified in accordance with the Indiana Department of Education
EXPERIENCE: Required experience includes: 1) Must have excellent organization and communication skills while being flexible; 2) Possess "no excuses" philosophy; 3) Good time, project, and classroom management skills; 4) Must be able to adapt curriculum for student accessibility; 5) Work cooperatively and effectively with other professional staff as well as parents/families; 6) Passion for and experience and/or training in counseling, social work, social emotional learning, and behavior intervention strategies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role will lead and steward a new "specials area" class focused on the social and emotional health of all students.
? Plan for and implement assigned social-emotional curriculum during daily 50-minute blocks, supplementing and modifying frequently and fluently in response to student need
? Gather and analyze school-wide and class-wide academic and behavioral data to ensure instruction is relevant and elevating overall school culture and effectiveness
? Work closely and collaboratively with the behavior specialist and behavior adjustment team for the betterment of school culture and learning environment
? Partner with general-education classroom teachers, behavior specialist, and families to determine appropriate and effective social, emotional, and behavioral interventions and programs - both school wide and for sub-groups of students
? Equip other school staff with behavioral-intervention tools and systems to reinforce and maintain content and skills from the social emotional learning curriculum.
? Build strong and sustaining relationships with students, families, and other school personnel
? Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs using EXCEL.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
