We are currently recruiting for a School Educator I that will function as an Exceptional Children's Teacher at Central Regional Hospital (CRH) in the Child and Adolescent Programming (CAP) Department. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Special Education teacher for K-13 students at CRH. Job duties include but are not limited to:
? Teach students with disabilities.
? Effectively use technology in the teaching environment to increase student performance.
? Provide diagnostic assessment of academic skills.
? Monitor student behavior as necessary.
? Interpret classroom assessment results.
? Record daily progress in medical charts.
? Collaborate with school staff in developing plans for patients who have specialized educational needs.
? Prepare/develop lesson plans to provide service delivery to students with disabilities.
? Grade, record, and file assignments as needed
? Maintain attendance records.
? Provide work for substitute as necessary.
? Write IEP?s on assigned students utilizing federal and state guidelines in collaboration with school and clinical staff, parents, students, service providers, and community personnel as deem appropriate.
? Prepare quarterly progress reports as necessary.
? Maintain required information in student folders.
? Attend staff meetings, community meetings, department meetings, and multi-disciplinary team meetings as needed.
? Attend professional development opportunities and in-service training.
? Assist with program planning and evaluation, curriculum development, educational materials and equipment selection, and staff development.
? Participate in extra-curricular student activities
The normal work hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday however flexibility is required to meet hospital needs. This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement. This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather only when the team to which it belongs is up to cover an adverse weather event.

Ability to provide services to students with disabilities including knowledge of relevant placement laws, standards, and regulations. ? Knowledge of developing IEPs for students with disabilities and administering formative assessments. ? Knowledge of the psychology and education of students with disabilities, including child and adolescent development, psychiatric diagnoses, and behavioral and emotional symptoms and their impact on school behavior and educational achievement. ? Expertise in using computers for communication, report-writing, file-storage, and accessing databases. ? Ability to work and effectively communicate with teachers, parents, treatment team members, service providers, and other necessary staff in the development or revision of IEPs. ? Ability to successfully complete all required initial one-time trainings and hospital/clinical orientations. ? Successful annual completion of hospital training, NVCI training, discipline specific training, and required departmental training. ? Knowledge of trauma informed care as well as psychiatric disorders. Management Preferences: ? Experience working in an institutional school setting or with students who have serious psychiatric diagnoses. ? Licensed or eligible for a license in an academic area pertinent to middle/high school students. ? Creative, energetic teacher who will engage students through interesting, 21st century teaching techniques. Physical Requirements: ? Position requires average physical activity. Consistent motivation and energy are necessary to ensure quality service delivery. Requires ability to stand for periods of time, go up and down stairs and be outdoors during field trips. Four-year degree in Elementary Education (or appropriate major area) for School Educator I, Master?s degree in appropriate major area for School Educator II or Doctoral degree or appropriate major area for School Educator III. Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." Bachelor's degree or above in Teaching Area with or eligible to receive a license level of one of the following: A, M, S, D. Must be Highly Qualified for EC, Elementary, or Core Area.
Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
