About the position

The Alabama Connections Academy is seeking a dedicated and certified High School Social Studies Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This position offers the flexibility of working from home within the state of Alabama or from the office in Athens. The teacher will be responsible for managing instructional programs virtually, utilizing various curriculum tools, and maintaining regular communication with learning coaches and students to ensure successful completion of educational programs. In this role, the Secondary Social Studies Teacher will engage in a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing student learning and achievement. Responsibilities include participating in the organization and administration of state testing, attending professional development trainings, and completing grading and progress reports in a timely manner. The teacher will also support the instructional program through both asynchronous web conferencing sessions and synchronous instruction, ensuring that all students, including English Language Learners, receive the necessary support and resources. Collaboration is key in this position, as the teacher will work closely with parents, students, and fellow educators to develop and update Personal Learning Plans, monitor student progress, and provide feedback on assignments. The teacher will also be involved in creating a sense of community within the virtual school environment, coordinating social activities, and participating in student recruitment efforts. Overall, this position requires a proactive approach to teaching and a commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students.

Responsibilities
? Participate in the organization and administration of the State Testing, as directed
,
? Attend local and state provided professional development trainings related to Title III compliance and instruction
,
? Complete all grading, create progress reports and conduct parent conferences in a timely manner
,
? Support the instructional program with asynchronous web conferencing sessions and synchronous instruction
,
? Become proficient with supplemental programs to support English Language Learners in the virtual setting, including interpreting data within the programs
,
? Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding
,
? Communicate with parents, students and other teachers on a regular basis to develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules
,
? Score assessments, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments and coach special projects
,
? Collaborate with school leadership to create and maintain the school's English Learner Advisory Committee
,
? Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program
,
? Develop a general knowledge of the entire program's K-12 curriculum and a very detailed knowledge of the courses for which responsible
,
? Support students and parents with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and projects
,
? Keep student records and data up-to-date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and logging all student and parent contacts
,
? Consult with other teachers and staff learning specialists to develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications to students' programs
,
? Work with other teachers to coordinate social activities and relevant field trips for students
,
? Attend field trips and other community activities implemented for families
,
? Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a 'school community'
,
? Participate in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts that require teacher representation
,
? Work with Advisory Teachers and school counselors to ensure students and families are receiving appropriate communications
,
? Participate in professional development sessions and associated activities
,
? Other duties as assigned

Requirements
? Certified teacher in the state of Alabama
,
? Experience in teaching social studies at the high school level
,
? Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
,
? Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and other educators
,
? Proficiency in using technology for virtual instruction and communication
,
? Experience with curriculum development and instructional strategies
,
? Ability to interpret data and use it to inform instruction
