Summary:

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. For definition of specialized experience related to this position, please see Minimum Qualifications described below Basic Requirements Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association(external link) (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation(external link) (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations(external link) (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations(external link) (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. Some dentists specialize in an area, such as, but not limited to, the following: Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics; Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Pediatric Dentistry; Periodontics; Prosthodontics; Endodontics; Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology; Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology; Dental Public Health. For the above specialty areas, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant's status as a specialist. Additional Requirements for the GS-13 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training. Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the related types of work and/or tasks: Types of Tasks include work experience performing a full range of complex professional dental services in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases and dental health problems requiring corrective, restorative, and/or preventive measures; planning, implementing, and coordinating professional dental administrative operation, policies and procedures similar to what is needed for an Area wide program through monitoring and evaluating oral health activities, providing consultation to senior leadership on goals, service parameter, resource utilization, continuity of care and quality of care initiatives; OR Completed a 3-year residence program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
