Reporting to the Director of Research and Impact, the Applied Research Specialist will analyze data, interpret findings, and create strategic recommendations for public health application in oral health and policy spaces. This part-time, remote position requires a strong foundation in research/technical writing, data analysis, and public health surveillance systems, alongside a demonstrated ability to translate complex findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences. This person will work independently and collaboratively within a virtual environment to support AIDPH?s research initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organization?s mission, vision, and values.

Job Responsibilities
? Conduct analyses of public health data and surveillance systems, identifying key trends and actionable insights to inform public health and policy initiatives.
? Develop and execute applied research methodologies to address strategic research questions in oral health and public health policy.
? Translate research findings into technical and non-technical publications, including white papers, peer-reviewed articles, toolkits, and dashboards.
? Collaborate with stakeholders to create strategic recommendations that address oral health inequities and support policy change.
? Support multiple research projects, ensuring timely and high-quality completion of deliverables.
? Support data visualization efforts, using platforms such as Tableau, R, or similar tools, to present findings effectively.
? Support grant development by identifying relevant funding opportunities and preparing research components of proposals.
? Interpret findings for diverse audiences, tailoring recommendations to the needs of stakeholders such as policymakers, community partners, and funders.
? Build partnerships with community-engaged research collaborators to promote equitable, bi-directional research processes.
? Support content development for webinars, conferences, and events to represent AIDPH?s research initiatives.
? Other responsibilities as defined by evolving organizational needs.

Required Skills
? Expertise in public health data analysis and interpretation, including experience with surveillance systems and large datasets.
? Strong research writing and technical communication skills, with a track record of producing high-quality publications.
? Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools, such as R, SAS, SPSS, Tableau, or similar platforms.
? Strong understanding of public health policy and its application to oral health and health equity.
? Ability to develop actionable recommendations and solutions from complex research findings.
? Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
? Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently in a remote, virtual environment.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
? Advanced degree (e.g., Master?s-level or higher) in public health, health policy, epidemiology, or a related field.
? 3-5 years of experience in applied research, public health, or policy analysis.
? Familiarity with oral health research or public health initiatives is strongly preferred.
? Knowledge of community-engaged research methods and partnership-building is preferred.

Salary

$35,000 - $45,000 per year
