The Treatment Room Nurse at START San Antonio will play a crucial role in providing direct patient care to individuals participating in research protocols. This position requires the nurse to utilize professional judgment and decision-making skills in planning and delivering care in accordance with established standards and protocols. The Treatment Nurse will administer investigational compounds and chemotherapy, perform study-related activities such as blood sampling and IV insertion, and ensure that informed consent is obtained prior to treatment. Additionally, the nurse will educate participants about study procedures and potential side effects, document events, and respond to emergencies as needed. This role is essential in maintaining the dignity, health, safety, and welfare of participants throughout their clinical trial experience.

Responsibilities
? Administers investigational compounds and/or chemotherapy/biotherapy to participants according to the protocol and applicable regulations.

? Performs study-related activities such as venipuncture, obtaining blood specimens, IV insertion, and venous access device management.

? Collects and processes biological samples according to the protocol and Standard Operating Procedures.
,
? Ensures that Informed Consent is obtained prior to treatment.
,
? Educates, explains, and informs participants of study procedures.
,
? Records data obtained according to the protocol and Standard Operating Procedures.
,
? Assists with the training and mentorship of less tenured staff.
,
? Provides patient education regarding participation in a clinical trial, chemotherapy/biotherapy/investigational agent administration and potential side effects.
,
? Utilizes nursing assessment skills to observe participant general well-being and potential adverse events.
,
? Documents events and takes appropriate action as needed.
,
? Responds to emergency situations based upon nursing standards.

Requirements
? Licensed RN in the State of Texas.
,
? Successful completion of competency-based orientation program and chemotherapy certificate.
,
? Current BLS certification/ACLS preferred.
,
? Minimum of 1-year Chemotherapy/Biotherapy administration experience.
,
? IV and venous access device management experience.
,
? Time management and organizational skills.
,
? Effective written and verbal communication skills.
,
? Working knowledge of a variety of health care equipment.
,
? Ability to make quality, independent decisions.
,
? Ability to instruct and direct the work of others.
