About the position

Become a part of our caring community and help us put health first. The Behavioral Economics Professional, Healthcare Strategy (BEP) is a core member of Humana's industry-leading Behavioral Economics team. The BEP brings expertise in behavioral science and applied study design to help Humana's leaders make informed business decisions, designing and executing field experiments to answer questions like: How can Humana use technological solutions to better support members' behavioral health needs? What's the best way for Humana to respond when a member has a fall? What are the clinical benefits of improving medical adherence for our members? This role will be primarily aligned to our internal Nudge Unit, but ideally with the capacity to support standalone experimental design as well. It requires an ability to think creatively and pragmatically about interventions and experimental design, developing approaches that balance risk, rigor, and feasibility to support real-world improvements. Humana's industry-leading Behavioral Economics team is a cross-functional enterprise service, enabling improved outcomes across multiple business areas. The team's work directly informs business decisions and influences broader strategies. The Behavioral Economics Professional is a core member of the BE team, owning a portfolio of nudge design and testing projects from start to finish. This includes initial project scoping; developing a theory of change; selecting the appropriate intervention and experimental design, including use of quasi-experimental methods as appropriate; overseeing implementation; analyzing data; and interpreting results for senior executives and other key decision-makers. Our services are flexible, so some projects may include only a subset of those activities, while others will be the full spectrum. The BEP must work autonomously at times, and with a high degree of technical skill. They must also work collaboratively with teams whose expertise is outside of behavioral science or quantitative research, eg product managers and market leaders. Success for the BEP means (1) developing approaches that appropriately balance rigor, risk, and feasibility; and (2) clearly interpreting and communicating implications and tradeoffs to business partners. Act as internal consultant for Humana's Primary Care Organization, supporting across multiple projects by: Building a theory of change, behavioral map, or similar output to level-set on assumptions and opportunities; Identifying options for intervention and program evaluation; Communicating effectively around those options and their tradeoffs (eg certainty vs speed to insight); Developing a test design; Implementing or partnering with implementers to conduct test and analyze results; Offering clear and nuanced interpretations of findings. The BEP must also communicate with BE team collaborators and partners to appropriately prioritize across a portfolio of projects, support BE team colleagues by providing internal peer review, contributing subject matter knowledge in your particular areas of expertise, and brainstorming potential approaches to overcome challenges. Support enterprise test & learn capabilities by participating in peer reviews for test designs across the business.
