The Chief Privacy Counsel at The Cigna Group will lead the Privacy Legal team, providing counsel on critical issues related to privacy, cybersecurity, data use, and technology. This role involves collaboration with various departments and requires expertise in privacy laws and regulations, particularly in the healthcare sector. The position demands strong leadership, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills to navigate complex regulatory environments and manage legal risks effectively.
Responsibilities
? Lead a team of high-performing attorneys in responding to information incidents and data breaches.

? Negotiate privacy, security, and data-related language in contracts with clients and vendors.

? Support M&A efforts by advising on data, cyber, and privacy-related issues.

? Provide guidance on methodologies for de-identifying data.

? Develop and administer privacy notices and policies.

? Create and implement data, cyber, and privacy training programs.
,
? Collaborate with Government Affairs on legislative and regulatory developments.

? Engage with regulators on data, cyber, and privacy issues.

? Work with Cigna Information Protection to build relationships with law enforcement agencies.

? Provide proactive legal guidance on privacy, security, and data issues.

? Assess and communicate requirements of new privacy laws and regulations.
Requirements
? Juris Doctor required.
,
? 10+ years of regulatory compliance experience, with at least 8 years focused on healthcare privacy.

? In-house privacy experience at a large, matrixed healthcare company preferred.
,
? Deep understanding of HIPAA, state and federal privacy laws, and data use regulations.
,
? Extensive experience in assessing and mitigating legal risks related to privacy and data governance.

? Strong contract negotiation skills.

? Ability to support business leaders for sustainable growth.

? Experience interacting with regulators and enforcement agencies.

? Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor legal teams in a fast-paced environment.

? Experience managing outside counsel budgets effectively.

? Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
