About the position

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is seeking a Data Science intern to join us for the Summer 2025. This internship is for a student who is currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or engineering. As a Data Science intern, you will have the opportunity to work on real-world projects that have direct impact on our business and customers. You will analyze large datasets, develop and use statistical methods, design methodologies, and create insightful reports and dashboards. You will also use AWS cloud computing services to store, process, and deploy your data science solutions. You will learn from industry experts and receive mentorship and feedback from your peers and managers. You will also enjoy a flexible and supportive work environment that fosters your personal and professional growth.

Responsibilities
? Perform data cleaning, preprocessing, and exploration on various sources of health-related data.

? Apply appropriate statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to answer business questions and generate insights.
,
? Design methodologies and validate them by writing code in Python or R.
,
? Use AWS cloud computing services such as S3, EC2, Lambda, and SageMaker to store, process, and deploy data science solutions.
,
? Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders using clear and concise reports and visualizations.
,
? Collaborate with other data science interns and mentors to share knowledge and feedback.
,
? Support ongoing data science initiatives and projects as needed.

Requirements
? Enrolled as a MS or PhD student (or recent grad) in a relevant field such as data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or engineering.

? Proficient in Python or R.
,
? Familiarity with deep learning and natural language processing techniques and applications.
,
? Experience with SQL and relational databases.
,
? Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze large datasets with attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves
? Experience or certification in AWS cloud computing.

? Familiarity with SAS.
,
? Excellent communication and presentation skills.

? Interest in health care and insurance domains.

? Experience with Large Language Models or Generative AI Frameworks.
