Job description: POSITION SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant performs a wide variety of accounting duties primarily within the Accounts Receivable function as well as aiding in the preparation and ongoing maintenance of the DART financial statements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
? Prepare invoicing for multiple streams of revenue related to transit services to include Paratransit, ESP, PSO, Unlimited Access and Ride Share, Rental Income, as well as advertising invoices which includes monthly sales report
? Reconcile bank accounts, balance bank to GL (general and payroll), follow up and research all outstanding checks
? Reconcile sales batches from Customer Service Terminals daily
? Assist in preparation of DARTs annual audit, including work papers prepared and balanced to year end trial balance
? Resolve customer billing issues; prepare monthly aging report management, prepare deposits held balance sheet account
? Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, including the posting of recurring standard entries
? Record, post and balance cash receipts ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts received in Accounts Receivable and bank modules
? Review Accounts Payable weekly for accuracy and complete file import to bank.
? Prepare daily AR deposit for the bank as well as track bank deposits receipts from other departments.
? Collaborate with of departments on Cash to farebox reporting comparison and tracking
? Process payroll taxes bi-weekly, ACH transfers and bank transfers
? Review and problem solve to ensure Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables, FTA Accounts Receivables, and Prepaid Accounts are balanced to the GL after month end close date
? Responsible for DART collections exceeding 60 days of invoice, to include past due letters as well as possible phone call to the customer
? Work with Financial Analyst to ensure Fixed Assets balance to GL, which is critical for annual audit
? Daily posting of batches within Accounting System generated from integrated systems
? Occasionally assist with Reception Desk when there are staffing needs

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
? Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
? One (1) to three (3) years of professional, intermediate level accounting experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:
? Knowledge of governmental accounting experience is preferred
? Knowledge of the principles and practices utilized in inputting accounting and statistical data into financial records, maintaining various journals, work papers, schedules and reports
? Knowledge of personal computers and current office software programs for word processing, presentations and email at the intermediate level of proficiency; spreadsheets and databases at the advanced level of proficiency

Skills or Ability to:
? Ability to add, audit, balance, check, code, count, divide, enter, group, itemize, list match, multiply, post, sort, subtract, tabulate, total and verify various transactions into accounts and numerical records through application of established arithmetic, bookkeeping, statistical and other quantitative procedures
? Ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality in working with agency financials and other pertinent sensitive information
? Ability to apply common sense understanding, problem solve and make independent decisions of the work processes, procedures, programs and services required in order to carry out general, written or oral instructions effectively
? Ability to maintain and develop working relationships with customers and agency staff as well as to provide reliable, accurate information which is intended to inform, explain and answer specific questions from employees and others outside the agency which relate to agency policies and accounting procedures
? Ability to prioritize and organize tasks to meet deadlines, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail, in a fast paced customer service environment with constant interruptions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibility

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

On a normal work day, this position requires:
? Prolonged periods of sitting and reaching
? Extensive use of hands, fingers and arms in operations requiring constant handling of paper documents, computing and entering data using a keyboard and ten key calculator
? Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less to read and enter numerical data
? The ability to hear normal verbal conversation with or without corrective devices to communicate with co-workers and customers
? The ability to speak and read the English language clearly and concisely

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primary work location is in a general office environment, heated during the winter and cooled in the summer. Job is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under supervision by the Finance Manager and guidance from the Chief Financial Officer, this position is for an individual looking to gain career experience while completing a Finance or related collegiate degree. The Finance Intern will work on a wide variety of tasks and projects in order to gain a better understanding of the roles Finance plays in local government. This position will assist in driving DART s strategic priorities of Financial Stewardship & Sustainability as well as provide additional support for accurate reporting and forecasting.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Perform general ledger account reconciliation

Assist in daily treasury operations

Perform banking reconciliations

Assist with month end close procedures as well as journal entries

Audit preparation

Assist with department implementation of SharePoint/Knowledge Lake system

Assist with Accounts Payable transaction verification and processing

Assist with Fixed Asset reporting and Grants Management

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

One or more years completed towards bachelor s degree

Currently enrolled as a college student with a Finance, Accounting, or related business major

Any prior related experience is a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

Principles of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Familiarity with any financial software such as Dynamics Great Plains, Peach Tree, QuickBooks etc.

Skills or Ability to:

Ability to complete tasks in an efficient, cost-effective and professional manner.

Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and good record keeping.

Proficient in the Microsoft Office Product Suite.

Ability to prioritize, complete and meet deadlines on multiple projects.

Analyze complex problems, evaluate alternatives, and make innovative and sound recommendations.

Develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with internal staff, contractors, vendors and the public using principles of good customer service.

Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal format, with the ability to clearly communicate to all levels of management.

Ability to work independently and within a team.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.
