PenFed is hiring a (Remote) Manager, FHA Mortgage Underwriting associated with our San Antonio, Texas office. The primary purpose of this job is to lead a team of dedicated FHA underwriters to support operations and originations staff in maintaining pristine underwriting quality on FHA transactions. This includes offering FHA expertise from the originations process through insuring.

The anticipated starting salary range for this role is $95,981 to $144,624This position is eligible for the organization?s annual Balanced Scorecard bonus subject to board discretion and approvalThis position is also eligible for the opportunity for an annual Pay for Performance bonus
Responsibilities

? Collaborate with underwriters, loan processors and mortgage loan originators to drive pull through rates, member satisfaction and loan quality standards to ensure acceptable performance based upon HUD comp ratio
? Thorough knowledge of FHA 4000.1 handbook and all appendices
? Complete knowledge of FHA Connection to include mortgage application screen, FHA logging, neighborhood watch and compare ratio, and the loan review system
? Knowledge of the EAD portal, FHA appraisals and FHA escrow holdbacks
? Experience in Encompass
? Able to formulate QA, QC, and Notice of Return rebuttals
? Review monthly scorecards for underwriting team, facilitate team meetings and complete staff performance evaluations
? Support department training with regards to guideline changes, updates, systems enhancements, etc.
? Provide guidance on escalated underwriting loan scenarios and requirements.
? Maintain working knowledge on mortgage related regulations and changes.
Qualifications
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
? Bachelor?s degree or a combination of education and experience, providing the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
? Minimum seven (7) years related work experience in FHA mortgage lending with at least 3 years of recent underwriting experience.
? Experience managing mortgage operations.
? Strong verbal and written communications skills required. Attention to detail required.
? MS office general knowledge required.
Supervisory Responsibility
? This position will supervise employees.
Licenses and Certifications
? Licensed Direct Endorsement (DE) Underwriter
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.
Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
Travel
Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
