Job description: We are seeking a Learning Collaborative Tutor (TLC) at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) promotes student success by providing learner-centric, engaging, responsive, and interactive academic support for enrolled JHSON degree and certificate students. TLC Tutors help support the center's mission by facilitating student learning and the development of critical thinking and analysis skills. TLC Tutors are not editors or proofreaders; rather, they work collaboratively with students to engage them in their own learning and problem-solving process.



Specific Duties & Responsibilities



In-person/Online Tutoring (85%)


  • Provide tutoring and/or writing support for JHSON students.

Training/Professional Development/Administrative (15%)

  • Attend orientation/training at start of semester.

  • Attend all scheduled trainings/staff meetings throughout the semester.

  • Create and maintain records of appointments and student progress.

  • Complete professional development tasks/projects as assigned.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to student needs and utilize various tutoring approaches.

  • Reliable and professional.

  • Ability to maintain professional collegiality with students, staff, faculty, and fellow tutors.

  • Knowledge of various theories and strategies related to tutoring.

  • Comfortable presenting and speaking in front of groups.

  • Able to work on-site and online, and on weekends and/or evenings.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in any subject.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's Degree in English (or equivalent).

  • Doctoral-level writing experience.

  • Prior experience with tutoring and/or teaching.

  • Experience with online tutoring and/or teaching.

  • Recommendation from JHSON instructor(s).

Starting Salary Range: $17.72-$24.35-$30.98 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
