Job description: Engaging, energetic and flexible teachers wanted for national online high school. U.S. Career Institute (USCI) has offered affordable, quality adult distance education for 40 years. USCI is expanding its educational programs to high school. Students will be nationwide and include both adolescents and adults (but in separate online classrooms). Students will enroll in a preset track of traditional academic content and electives, in addition to electives in vocational content areas. Most content will be delivered asynchronously, but teachers will need to provide an opportunity for synchronous learning each week. Faculty are assigned responsibilities based on their degree qualifications and/or area(s) of expertise and must consent to observation in the classroom by faculty supervisors and as required by regulatory agencies.

Education Qualifications:
  • Minimum bachelor?s degree
  • Colorado 7-12 In-Field Teaching Certification (Preferred) OR
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in subject area

Essential Functions:
  • Work from home to provide engaging, quality online instruction to students in grades 9-12
  • Provide instruction as necessary to service 504 plans/students with disabilities
  • Use LMS to provide instruction and engage in student interaction
  • Work collaboratively with school personnel and stakeholders
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of student grades to students as well as gradebook
  • Use established ?office hours? to meet with students virtually or by phone. All student and parent interactions must be conducted in a professional manner (e.g. without distractions and interruptions that may normally be present in the teacher?s home environment).
  • Attend faculty meetings
  • Represent content area in monthly administrative meetings and other meetings as appropriate
  • Adapt and augment purchased online content as appropriate to facilitate student ability to master/achieve stated competencies/outcomes. Instructors will provide a copy of the augmented content to the Curriculum department. Augmented content is USCI?s property and may be integrated into its curriculum for future courses.
  • Communicates well with students, parents (of minor students) and other school personnel
  • Consistently engages in positive interactions with students and parents
  • Must respond to school, student and parent inquiries within 48 business hours
  • Makes placement and promotion decisions by generating formal and informal reports regarding student progress
  • Alerts administrator(s)s to concerns about student performance, progress, failure to meet code of conduct or other appropriate concerns
  • Ensures safe learning environment for students, reporting any bullying or inappropriate behavior immediately to administrator(s)
  • Grade assignments in a timely manner; communicate results via established reporting system(s) for students, parents and school
  • Provide frontline support to students and parents struggling to use technology (USCI has a IT Help Line for more advanced support)
Other Job Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience in the content area, with appropriate content area endorsement, if required
  • Copies of teaching credentials (if applicable) must be provided upon hire to document credentials to teach the subject and level within the high school program for which the faculty has been hired.
  • Must pass background check
  • Experience in distance education greatly preferred
  • Experience teaching both adolescents and adults is beneficial
  • Ability to oversee potential teaching assistant(s)
  • Meets standards established by accrediting agency (DEAC) and Colorado Department of Education
  • Ability to read and write English language, correct use of grammar
  • Ability to work independently from home
  • Ability to plan and prioritize
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Timely communication skills and student support skills
  • Continued maintenance of teaching credential
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies
Hours: Instructor will be preparing for student enrollment to begin in mid-2022 with minimal (5-10) hours per week in course and other preparations until enrollment of students. Once students are enrolled, hours may increase but will remain part-time and with some degree of flexibility.

Benefits: This is a remote, non-benefit staff position. Once the high school is fully operational, should enrollment count, school and teacher agree that a full-time position is appropriate and within the scope of the teacher?s availability, the position will become a benefitted position.

Pay Rate: $25 per hour. This is a staff position, not an independent contractor.
