Job description: The IEP-GTI Foundation Year TOEFL Test Preparation instructor is responsible for introducing participants in a foundation year program to the format and test-taking skills and strategies of the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based Test). This program is administered jointly by NC State's and Intensive English Program (IEP) and Global Training Initiative (GTI).
POSITION OVERVIEW
The focus of this class will be on developing familiarity with sections of the TOEFL (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing) and increasing English language and test-taking skills required to improving TOEFL scores. By practicing test-taking skills, TOEFL strategies, and reviewing advanced English grammar, students will increase their readiness to take the TOEFL iBT. Students will take numerous practice tests and systematically review the results of each.
RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to: * Teaching 4 - 6 in-person class hours weekly
- Communicating with the program coordinator and IEP director
- Providing extensive assistance and support for student questions regarding the TOEFL test
- Maintaining and submitting attendance reports on a weekly basis
- Participating in staff meetings, as requested.
If Yes, Appointment Length One semester with the possibility to extend.

Work Schedule Varies - 4 -6 hours per week
Other Work/Responsibilities
Close cooperation and occasional meetings with supervisor regarding instruction and student progress and well-being will be required.
Option open to participate in program activities both inside and outside the classroom (excursions, special classes and meals) This is unpaid time.
Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree in any field plus 3+ years experience (or the equivalent) teaching ESL to intermediate to advanced-level students at the secondary or post-secondary level.
Department Required Skills
Bachelor's degree and ESL teaching experience at the high-school or higher ed. level. Familiarity with format, strategies and teaching methodologies used in a TOEFL preparation course. Knowledge of Middle Eastern culture, interpersonal and writing skills. Finally, experience working with a diverse, multicultural student population.
- 3+ years experience teaching ESL to international students with intermediate to advanced English proficiency at the secondary or post-secondary level
- excellent written and spoken English skills

- strong organizational skills
- proven ability to work with a diverse international population.
Master's degree or Certificate in TESOL
Current knowledge of issues/concerns relevant to the ESL field and TOEFL test
International teaching experience and /or fluency in a second language are highly desired
Experience using Google for Education Apps
Extensive knowledge of English grammar and ESL writing
