Job Description

Student Expectations:

  • Support and be a resource for students engaging with DEIB programs, events, and other initiatives.
  • Working during specific times - 8am to 5pm with some evening and weekend commitments. (Minimum 7-10 hours a week).
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal integrity, best judgement, ethical behavior, and adherence to School of Business and KU policies.
  • Be flexible and willing to do other duties as assigned.
Student Responsibilities:
Event assistance:
  • Work collaboratively to develop, plan, and deliver DEIB related programs and initiatives in alignment with the three stages of the Jayhawk life cycle.
  • Development of marketing tools and strategies used to promote DEIB programs and initiatives
  • Support DEIB Program Coordinators in planning and execution of other DEIB programs and initiatives including but not limited to the scheduling of events, reserving event space, catering and menu selection, setup, teardown, etc.
  • Assist with the preparation and gathering of event/program materials including preparing nametags, PowerPoint slide decks, decorations, creation of digital signage, etc.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Assist DEIB Program Coordinators with administrative tasks including but not limited to packet compiling, thank you letter mailings, scheduling MBSP 1:1 meetings with program staff, and keeping inventory of supplies and swag, etc.
  • Assist with planning and preparing agendas and notes for DEIB Advisory Group Meetings
  • Assist with preparing and inputting data from MBSP scholar surveys and other data collected with the intention of measuring the success of DEIB programs and initiatives.
  • Utilize the MBSP Lounge bulletin board to encourage student engagement and provide students with appropriate academic and professional resources.
Recruitment:
  • Assist with recruitment events: serve on panels, speak about student experience, provide written quotes and reflection, tabling at recruitment events, Cap Fed tours to prospective underrepresented students.
  • Recruit students, faculty, and staff to assist or participate in various DEIB programs and initiatives.
Mentorship:
  • Serve as an academic and professional resource for students in DEIB programs. This could entail assisting with academic tutoring, study strategies, connecting with networking opportunities, and working on other skills such as time management, communication, writing, etc.
  • Serve as mentors to prospective students involved in DEIB programs. This includes prospective student outreach and communication, encouraging prospective students to pre-college programs hosted the school's DEIB team, and providing students with resources relevant to the college search process.

Required Qualifications
  • An academic GPA of 2.75.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills demonstrated through application materials.
  • Ability to work an average of 8 hours per week.
  • Must meet KU minimum enrollment for employment (6 credit hours).
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of software and applications.
During the semester term of the appointment, the KU student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.

  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders including internal and external campus partners.
  • Passion for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiatives and supporting peers who identify with underrepresented identities.
  • Experience with event planning, administrative duties, mentoring, and/or tutoring.
Position Overview

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Student Assistants will be responsible for development, planning and delivery of student-centered programs or initiatives focused on supporting and celebrating the identities of underrepresented student populations throughout the Jayhawk life cycle in School of Business. Student assistants will also be responsible for aiding with all other DEIB related events and initiatives at the School of Business and serving as assistant the school's DEIB Program Coordinators. Duties include and are not limited to program development, project management, marketing, administrative responsibilities, recruitment assistance, academic and professional mentorship to peers, and all other duties as assigned.
