General Description:

The Nursing Student Success Coordinator (NSSC) collaborates with the nursing faculty and staff to facilitate student success for all students enrolled in the nursing program by providing academic assistance. The NSSC works with students who seek assistance and coordinates with nursing faculty that refer students for additional academic support. The individual must possess a commitment to student success, and strong interpersonal, advising, public speaking, and data management skills. The individual must also possess the ability to work as a member of a team and exercise exceptional organizational skills, independent judgment, initiative, and confidentiality.

Specific Duties: * Collaborates with nursing faculty to develop and implement alternative learner success experiences to include tutoring, time management, stress management, reading and studying, and test-taking skills.
  • Initiates Learner Success Contracts for all nursing students identified by the nursing faculty that are in need of additional academic support (ex. Test-taking strategies).
  • Works with individual students and faculty to engage and monitor students with success plans and provides documentation of student progress.
  • Provides additional content resources to students during in-person learning sessions and on the LMS (Canvas?).
  • Meets weekly with nursing faculty on student?s progress and identifies additional needs when applicable.
  • Coordinates the delivery of weekly 30 minute in-class workshops for Level I students on test-taking strategies.
  • Coordinates and/or conducts individual and group study sessions.
  • Conducts one-on-one post-exam analysis with students that are referred by the nursing faculty.
  • Makes referrals to academic support services including counseling, financial aid, writing center for reading skills, counseling center or student life for additional needs (ex. food, transportation).
  • Facilitates communication between faculty and students as needed.
  • Academic monitoring. Supports the collection of data and tracks retention rates (ex. initial cohort retention, readmitted student retention, LPN Transfer retention, status of students that withdraw from the nursing program during the first and subsequent semesters.
  • Assists in the preparation and submission of all student learner-success-related reports, surveys and data that are required by the department.
  • Attends monthly ACEN meetings to provide updates on students? status, obtain referrals from faculty, and supports the faculty in developing department/program policies regarding first-year student learner success, and across the nursing program.
  • Participates in student workshops and orientations, as applicable.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in nursing, Master's degree in Nursing strongly preferred.

Experience: Minimum five years nursing experience. Minimum of two years teaching strongly preferred.

Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills and the ability to interact well with students, colleagues, and general public.
  • Aptitude in technology use such as but not limited to: Microsoft office; email; Blackboard; Power point; and various forms of social media.
