Ensures that graduate and undergraduate students with disabilities have equal access to the university's educational services and opportunities by providing services to students who request and qualify for accommodations. Consultants with faculty, staff, and administrators on issues related to accessibility and methods to implement appropriate accommodations. Provides strategic direction for the delivery of accommodations to undergraduate and graduate students.
Examples of Duties
Direct efforts to identify and deliver accommodations for students with disabilities who meet the eligibility requirements under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Fair Housing Amendments Act, and related laws. Assist students with access to accommodations, assistive technology, study strategies, and self-advocacy training. Provide consultation to prospective students and parents regarding services. Oversee the scheduling and implementation of testing accommodations.

Develop and maintain policies and procedures regarding the evaluation and implementation of accommodations in accordance with relevant state and federal laws and university policies. Ensure that information is readily available on services, accommodations, policies, and demographics relating to students with disabilities. 20%
Chair the Disability Housing Accommodation Committee to evaluate and coordinate housing accommodation requests and approvals with the Office of Residence Life. 15%
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional and administrative staff within the office of Accessibility Services and Accommodations. 10%
Participate in retention and persistence efforts for undergraduate students, including the Students of Concern and early alert/early warning activities. 10%
Help faculty and staff implement strategies to provide approved accommodations for students. 5%
Develop and implement internal reports that inform university faculty and administration of the status of ADA/504 compliance and opportunities for improvement. 5%
Maintain appropriate records to evaluate the progress of students utilizing services and the effectiveness of the services provided. Ensure the confidentiality of student information. 5%
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education: (indicate required or preferred)
Master's degree required in Education, Special Education, Inclusive Education, Rehabilitation, or closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and years of experience) is required.
Years of Experience - (required or preferred number of years and in which specific areas)
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience administering programs and providing services for students with disabilities. A minimum of three of the five years of experience must be in a college/university setting.
Certification and/or Licensure

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge about current state and federal laws and regulations regarding the rights of persons with disabilities and responsibilities of higher education institutions
- In-depth knowledge about current methods of providing reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards; ability to describe, evaluate, and implement best practices regarding services for students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of student development theories and their applications in practical contexts; ability to research and identify best practices in academic support services.
- Ability to apply current scholarship related to cognition, learning and pedagogy to academic support programs; ability to engage in meaningful, intentional professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility.
- Strong communication skills; ability to express ideas verbally and in writing; ability to convey information effectively to colleagues, students and their parents/guardians.
- Knowledge of and ability to advocate for students from diverse backgrounds; knowledge of the unique challenges faced by academically and economically disadvantaged student populations at the college level; ability to recognize and respond to the needs of underrepresented and historically marginalized students.
- Ability to incorporate, intentionally and respectfully, topics of diversity, equity and inclusion within areas of responsibility.
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential material and maintain integrity and confidentiality of data; in-depth knowledge of current regulations regarding student privacy, especially FERPA.

Standard office environment with regular exposure to computer monitors and video display screens. Regular administrative office hours are expected; occasional flexibility is necessary to be available outside regular office hours to attend, host, or evaluate meetings, trainings, tutoring sessions, and other events.
