Job description: ROLE: The Graduate Student Writing & Success Coach will collaborate with the Academic Advisors and Success coaches in the Graduate Resource Center in support of the School of Educations (SOE) goal to provide targeted outreach to M.A. and Ed.D students. The goal of the center is to create a welcoming environment for all students and specifically for Hispanic and other underserved students in the SOE. This PPOHA grant-funded position strives to increase the engagement, retention, and success of students in the MAED/EL programs and the Ed.D. Program in Educational Leadership. This position will provide writing support to students and serve as a resource for faculty and staff to enhance graduate student writing skills. This position will also provide online writing coaching and support for Graduate Students approximately half the time in collaboration with Concordia's Online Writing Lab (OWL) staff. This position will also provide educational outreach services including online and in-person student success workshops and classroom presentations focused on writing skills development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
  • Assist in the management of daily operations and activities for the Graduate Resource Center and create a welcoming and inclusive environment in the GRC for Hispanic and other underserved students.
  • Develop and implement training seminars including but not limited to: APA style, academic success, writing support, scholarly writing, and synthesis, time management, organization, study skills, etc. for MAED/EL and EdD students as needed.
  • Meet regularly with the PPOHA Project Director and staff to assess and ensure program accountability.
  • Maintain records of meetings with students and document student interaction.
  • Collect data for the purpose of analyzing and reporting to appropriate stakeholders with attention to student confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with Graduate program directors and the Writing Studio Director to ensure the writing needs of students are supported and developed.
  • Provide virtual and face-to-face writing tutoring as well as written feedback to graduate students in the School of Education and other assigned students, approximately 50% of the time through the Concordia Online Writing Lab (OWL)
  • Keep current on research, best practices, and new initiatives regarding writing support.
  • Compose instructional and efficient revision plans that engage the writer in short-term and long-term personal growth
  • Research and advise students on discipline-specific writing genres, ranging from academic dissertations and peer-reviewed journal articles to technical training manuals.
  • Curate and provide resources for a variety of writing needs from discipline specific information to grammatical and mechanical concerns.
  • Participate in professional development activities related to current developments for providing online feedback to writers, research, and scholarship in rhetoric and composition.
  • Remain current on best practices and resources for teaching writing in an online format
  • Develop outreach and publicity efforts to create awareness of GRC writing support through a variety of communication channels and methods.
  • Collaborate with relevant programs to promote and market GRC and other writing support programs.
  • Monitor website content and recommend changes and updates.
  • Meet regularly with the Writing Studio/Tutoring Services Director to develop, prioritize, and organize specific goals for graduate student writing support in the School of Education.
  • Assist with collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and implementing assessment strategies to improve services.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences related to current developments in tutoring centers, teaching, research, and scholarship regarding best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Respect for confidentiality of records.
  • Awareness that behavior and dress should be appropriate for the environment of a Christian university.
  • Creative aptitude.
  • Ability to be flexible to changing conditions and needs
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum degree required: Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred degree: Master's Degree from a four-year college or university in writing, academic advising, student development, coaching, higher education, or other related field.
  • Necessary experience includes knowledge of best practices relevant to the position, experience working in a writing center, and or experience providing student advising or other academic support services.

Expected salary: $23 - 28 per hour
