Job Description
Under the direction of the Vice President for Student and Academic Affairs, the Director of Student Life and Housing is responsible for planning, developing and executing a collegewide student life, developing and leading college-wide student activities and campus events, cultivating a student experience of belonging, as well as managing student housing, student placement in housing, prospective student tours, food pantry, compliance issues with regard to student housing, and supervising resident assistants. The goal of the residential experience is to increase student retention while developing cultural competencies. The Director leads Student Life and Housing staff in on-going assessment practices, program review, and the dissemination/presentation of critical elements related to the mission and strategic plan of the College. This Director supervises the Residential Assistants. This position will work closely with the Student Government Association, student life committee, academic faculty, and other staff.
This position is located at the main campus in Elko, NV and requires occasional travel, including overnight stays to various locations within the state of Nevada.
Qualifications
Bachelor?s degree required with three (3) years of full time Residential Life experience or a master?s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience as a self-starter and embrace a diverse, inclusive, and equity driven philosophy.
Experience with policy and procedure development and implementation.

Preferred Qualifications
- Preference for candidates with two or more years of student affairs, housing, or student life experience. Preference for candidates who have worked in at a Rural-Serving Institution.
Student Life
Is the Student Advocate for Great Basin College?s Student Government Association (GBC SGA) and is recognized in that role across NSHE.
Assures the planning, development, and execution of college wide student life activities.
Conducts quantitative and qualitative assessments of student life activities.
Collaborates with Student Government in planning, delivering, and executing student life activities.
Regularly engages Student Government and student college population and serves as an advocate for the student voice to college leadership and administration.
Assures that student activities, including cultural and multicultural activities, are occurring on a regular basis as determined and approved by the Vice President for Student and Academic Affairs.
Directs campus event programming, co-curricular and off-campus activities, intramural activities, clubs, and organizations.
Coordinates tours of the GBC Elko campus to groups of prospective students as needed.
Residential Life Leadership & Supervision
Leads housing residential program serving residents in traditional, dorm and apartment style residence halls.
Assesses and proposes relevant housing policies, procedures, and initiatives to create intentional learning environments for residential students and the promotion of on-going assessment.
Maintains day-to-day awareness of maintenance needs and project progress.
Responds to emergent issues related to the student experience.
Supervises 3 or more part-time Residential Assistants.
Directs recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of part-time Residential Assistants.
Provides behavioral intervention to students including counseling, mediation, problem solving, policy violations, and referrals of individuals or groups of students regarding personal concerns, academic needs, or policies.
Responds to and supports medical emergencies, safety and security emergencies, and students in crisis as needed.
Reviews incident reports, follows-up with students involved in documented incidents, determines various levels of behavioral sanctions and enters incident report data into computer records.
Serves in on-call staff duty rotation.
This position is required to reside in the GBC residential housing. Rent is waived.
Student Support
Collaborate with GBC?s Director of Academic Success Center to support residential student learning in the residence halls (i.e., tutoring in the residence halls).
Identify collaborative opportunities with other support services such as Academic Advising, GBC Child Care Center, Financial Aid, etc. to support students' academic success.
Identify resources for programs and initiatives that support students' academic success.
Assist in faculty/staff engagement and involvement in the residence halls.
Responsible for the day-to day operation of the Elko campus food pantry and coordinates with the other GBC locations with regards to their food pantries.
Other
Participate in college wide activities and committees as appropriate.
Occasional travel throughout Nevada with possible overnight stays, with or without accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Other duties as assigned.
Salary and Benefits
Annual salary range is $60,000 - $78,000 commensurate with experience and education.
GBC is NOT able to support Visa applications for employment at the college. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered.
Nevada System of Higher Education benefits package includes a 401(a) defined contribution retirement plan with employees contributing 15.50 % and a matching 15.50% from the employer, medical/dental/vision plan, benefit time, 11 paid holidays, and tuition waiver at Nevada System of Higher Education colleges for the employee and family. There is no state income tax in Nevada.
