Position Summary Applicants are invited to apply for a grant funded staff position for Fall 2023. As a staff member in the Department of Teacher Education, the individual hired will collaborate in the development and implementation of a residency model program. The program goal will be to support and create a strong university-district-agency partnership between the Department of Teacher Education (DTE) at Northern New Mexico College, and school districts throughout New Mexico. The residency program will serve as the catalyst to address the needs of the recruitment, training, and retainment of quality teachers and teacher candidates in New Mexico communities that serve large numbers of Native American and English Learner students. Position is a grant position and is subject to grant approval and criteria

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Create a year-long teacher residency program in partnership with school districts throughout New Mexico to train teacher candidates in high quality pedagogical knowledge and community-based sensitivity awareness;
  • Provide program participants with coaching support that includes extensive content knowledge to teach subjects and a deep understanding of human development that allows them to master the multi-dimensional nature of teaching;
  • Coordinate professional development opportunities for program participants that provide a strong understanding for the need of cultural sensitivity and to explore the construction of disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge;
  • Assist in the evaluation and analysis of program evaluations, and assist in writing the final program evaluation;
  • All other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master?s Degree in education. Possess a level three NMPED teacher license, a TESOL and/or bilingual endorsement, and New Mexico teaching certification.
  • Must also have experience leading professional development activities, have extensive knowledge of the northern New Mexico communities and schools, and experience in effectively working with ethnically and culturally diverse students in a K-12 education setting.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Must pass a current background check as required by the New Mexico Public Education Department.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects;
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders;
  • Good computer software skills including experience with a variety of teaching resources, media and technologies, including computer-aided instruction and/or online instruction technologies, and graphing calculators;
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to attend to details and meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated problem solving and self-starting skills;
  • Ability to work as a team member, who exhibits a collegial disposition;
  • Ability to create a positive impression of the department and college, while responding to the customers either by telephone or in person;
  • Ability to introduce computer technology into the classroom and laboratory and willingness to explore new course delivery methods;
  • Ability to coordinate, organize and anticipate details for special programs and events;
  • Ability to juggle multiple/conflicting schedules and priorities;
  • The ability to independently manage the details of multiple programs and projects, to track activities;
  • Ability to work and make decisions with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment;
  • Ability to show flexibility in response to change, and adapt to and accommodate new methods and procedures;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to articulate and support the college philosophy with a strong commitment to teaching and learning in a college setting;

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer;
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds;
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is normally performed in schools.
  • Travel to and between schools and school districts is required.
  • If required must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
