Job description: The S.C. Arts Commission (SCAC) seeks a motivated and detail oriented person to serve as Arts Learning Coordinator. Working closely with the Arts Learning team and Arts Grow SC network, a successful candidate should have experience with and a passion for learning in and through the arts.

Job Purpose:

Coordinates and implements activities and administrative duties for the Arts Commission's Arts Grow SC including grants and direct programs. Working under supervision of the Arts Learning Director, they play a vital role in working with constituents, grantees, schools, organizations, and partner entities. Provides consulting and technical assistance to constituents within assigned programmatic areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Arts Learning Coordinator
  • Works with Arts Learning team to administer short and long-term planning goals for S.C. Arts Commission (SCAC) assigned programs/projects in accordance with agency mission, values, and strategic plan.
  • Works with Arts Learning Team to administer short and long-term planning goals and guidelines for SCAC assigned grant categories in accordance with agency mission, values, and strategic plan.
  • Assigned grants: School Arts Support and 4K Arts Integration Grants.
  • Responsible for answering initial questions for interested applicants
  • Initiates outreach to teachers, school districts, and district arts coordinators to share information about the grant opportunities
  • Facilitates workshops/presentations about the grant opportunities throughout the year
  • Special outreach/attention for SCAC Opportunity Counties
  • Assigned programs: Arts Directory
  • Promotes the Arts Directory to artists, arts organizations, teaching artists, and arts therapists throughout the state to encourage increased membership
  • Managing incoming applications and new member SLED background checks
  • Oversees Artist Renewal Process and Applications
  • Coordinates discipline specific panels of arts professionals for the arts directory evaluation process
  • Organizes annual SLED background check for artists and organizations on the directory annually
  • Oversees the SCAD master list, keeping it as organized and up to date as possible
  • Reports on new and expired members for the accountability report annually
  • Creates and implements an annual work plan for assigned programmatic areas.
  • Serves as project manager for short-term agency programs and projects.
  • Participates in SCAC staff and program meetings, as well as relevant Arts Learning team meetings.
  • Facilitates group processes, including grant panels, webinars & other learning and community-building experiences, both in person and online.
  • Represents SCAC at local, statewide, and national cultural activities, meetings, and conferences.
  • Builds and maintains relationships among a broad cross section of local arts council, business, government, arts, education, and community leaders to support SC Arts Commission programs and services.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Participates in agency strategic planning.
  • Collaborates closely with other agency programs and departments.
  • Fulfills other duties consistent with supporting agency projects, programs, and events.
Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the arts, governmental cultural policy, and trends in K-12 arts education.
  • Knowledge of arts program planning and development.
  • Experience working in diverse capacities with people who represent a broad spectrum of socio-cultural and socio-economic positions.
  • Experience working in Rural Communities.
  • Experience working in grant allocation programs and explaining complex processes to
  • various stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-directed with strong capacity for management of time and workload.
  • Ability to take initiative and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgment and discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Google Professional suite, and other databases, internet research, and cloud-based software.
  • Ability to develop partnerships, nurture collaborations, and to work within the confines of a government entity.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data to effectively communicate (written, graphic, and oral).
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships and communicate in a professional manner with agency executives, staff, board, funders, governmental officials, and the public.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree* and experience in the assigned programmatic area.
  • Punctuality, regular attendance, and adherence to daily work schedule are essential. Overnight travel, evening, and weekend work is sometimes required, as well as light lifting and long periods of sitting.
  • The employee may be required to operate a state vehicle; must possess and maintain a valid S.C. driver's license.
  • Employment is contingent upon the results of a favorable reference check and a criminal background check, which includes information from the S.C. Law Enforcement Department (SLED).
  • Degree must be from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. A Bachelor's degree in arts education, an arts discipline, or arts administration. South Carolina Educator Certification or equivalent. Grant application experience (from SCAC or other sources). Three (3) years combined professional experience in any of the following:
  • Arts education programming
  • Community arts development
  • Non-profit administration
  • Education administration
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • Degree must be from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
