Job description: Responsible for all duties related to the preparation and serving of student meals in both elementary and secondary schools. Adheres to the National Breakfast, Lunch, and Afterschool Program guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders. Maintain confidentiality within the school and the community.



Job Duties / Responsibilities


  • Exhibit knowledge relating to all aspects of the Elementary Assistant Lead or Middle/High School Food Service Technician?s responsibilities to provide coverage in their absence.

  • Responsible for proper receiving and storage of all products upon delivery. Using correct FIFO/FEFO procedures.

  • Consistent cleaning and maintenance of all kitchen and cafeteria equipment. Passing all internal site reviews and any ISBE/Health department inspections without any critical violations.

  • Utilize correct serving utensils to ensure accurate meal portioning.

  • Perform and document temperature/sanitation checks/verifications as required by law.

  • Ensure dishwashing is ongoing/completed to meet sanitation expectations at all times.

  • Operate a cash register and make change accurately and efficiently.

  • Must be able to travel within the district using reliable transportation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification, previously known as sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment.

  • Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.

  • Current Illinois Driver?s License.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Minimum of one (1) years? experience cashiering, customer service, cafeteria line server or related field, preferred.

  • Minimum of one (1) years? experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant or alike, preferred.

  • Proficiency in organizing, multi-tasking, and computers.

  • Accuracy in handling money (cashiering, banking, etc.).

  • Hold a State of Illinois Food Handler card and demonstrate specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job which includes. If Certification is not current must be obtained within 30 days of employment.

  • Ability to demonstrate both verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to develop a working relationship with staff and principal within the school you are assigned.

  • Ability to communicate on a consistent basis with the school office/staff any pertinent information that will affect meal programs. (i.e. Menu changes, allergies, field trips).

  • Ability to use Gmail and answer email in a timely manner.

  • Should be well spoken and have the ability to express thoughts and ideas.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work indoors in a busy kitchen environment with exposure to noise, heat/cold, cleaning solutions, and cooking fumes.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to assist in lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Wears appropriate uniform and shoes as provided.

Terms of Employment

  • This is a 7-hour, ten (10) month SEIU position. Salary benefits as per the current collective bargaining agreement and approved by the Board of Education.

  • Must complete all FNS and District mandated GCN tutorials, monthly safety training, and department sponsored training per USDA requirements by their due date.

  • Must be able to adhere to all Blackout dates according to the Food and Nutrition Calendar.

  • Maintain a positive attendance record as specified in FNS Department Handbook & SEIU contract.

  • Attend all back to school and professional development meetings/training required.
