Axient is seeking a skilled professional Technical Writer, with skills in drafting, technical writing, and strategic communications, for use in military and national security, operations, training, and education related to Operational Energy. This person will provide support to government agencies such as the Naval Post Graduate, School (NPS), and its energy group.
Responsibilities
This editor and technical writer, for strategic communications, operations, education and training, will perform a variety of writing tasks, including:
- Review and editing of operations, education, and training materials, including the editing of documents, reports, manuscripts, teaching material, including books, that support work across the energy domain, including operational and installation energy.
- This position requires a professional writer, editor, who can understand complex national security and military problems, meet the organization objectives of the DOD and Services and ensure that all written materials are accurate and of high quality.
- At NPS the editor works for the group director of the NPS energy group and will work with government and selected authors and writers, to improve the content of selected material and documents.
- Further, the editor will provide inputs to the government customer(s) on how to improve current and future written material, to include the sharing of best writing practices.
- Work includes identifying ways to improve document content, presentation, and flow.
- Work will also include advising clients regarding changes needed within specific documents, thought papers, training and teaching material, manuscripts, and presentations, to ensure materials communicate and available in a timely and orderly fashion to ensure complete finished products ready for publication in a timely and orderly manner, and other tasks as assigned.
- One primary task for this position, is the editing and preparation of NPS training and education material, including an Energy textbook.
- This textbook will be used to educate military members and senior leaders on operational and installation energy, including the energy and power required to operate platforms in all domains and conditions globally, such as, forward bases, weapon systems, systems of systems, and energy storage, such as batteries/recharge capability for air, land, sea, space, and cyber forces and personnel.
- Operational and installation energy sources include, but are not limited to, fossil fuels, renewables, and nuclear power.
- The written operational, education, and training materials will also address some environmental issues associated with energy.
- 10 years experience in journalism and/or editing
- Bachelor's Degree in writing, telecommunication or related field
- Ability to focus in detail and edit written materials.
- An In-depth knowledge of grammar and military writing styles.
- Knowledge of academic writing styles.
