Summary of Job Duties: Trojan Tutoring is provided for General Education/Core Curriculum subjects and courses (generally 1000/2000 level courses that are not already provided by existing tutoring services or centers i.e. composition, math, and applied communication). Designs an individualized approach to the tutorial session, explains the steps taken to understand the information and concepts, Facilitates tutee insight into the underlying thought process to promote independent learning, Builds students? confidence as they integrate effective learning and study strategies, and shares effective study skills such as note-taking, time management, and test-taking strategies. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience
  • Must be a student currently enrolled at UA Little Rock;
  • Must have received an ?A? or ?B? in one of the following courses (Introduction to visual arts, World Literature, Mythology, Psychology and the Human Experience, History of Civilization I OR II, US History to 1877 or since 1877, American National Government, Physical Anthropology, Earth and the Environment, Ethics and Society, Biology, Anatomy, Physics I and II, or General Chemistry I and II).
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reviewing classroom or curricula topics and assignments;
  • Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks;
  • Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom;
  • Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills, and approaches to answering test questions;
  • Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments;
  • Providing students with positive and constructive feedback;
  • Building meaningful connections with students from diverse backgrounds;
  • Instructing students both in person and over video conferencing;
  • Diagnosing student needs through active listening techniques and questioning strategies;
  • Recognizing different learning styles and student preferences.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of course materials for courses tutor is assisting;
  • Knowledge of video conferencing and email systems;
  • Skilled in interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills;
  • Skilled in conducting virtual and in-person meetings;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision;
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and troubleshoot appointment issues when necessary;
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive work ethic.
