Oncology to ICU Career Path:
A new and exciting career pathway for new graduates looking to specialize in ICU. This RN role will begin in Oncology, with the intent to move to a RN ICU position within 18 to 24 months. There will be regular shadow shifts and touchpoints with the ICU.
Oncology: A 25-bed unit specializing in the care of medical, hematology, and oncology patients. This floor is a great place to refine your assessment skills, become educated in the fast-paced evolving science of cancer treatment and management. Nurses who select oncology have the opportunity to care for a group of medically complex patients with rare disorders and cancers. These nurses are working along world class physicians who are contributing to the body of science that strives to cure cancer. These nurses have the ability to grow into certified chemotherapy or oncology trained nurses.
ICU: We are an 18 bed ICU. We currently encompass the 2nd floor of the East tower at Sanford Health Broadway Hospital in the heart of downtown Fargo. While we have a focus in Oncology, you find that we see a variety of medical and surgical ICU patients. We care for complex surgical cases that require ICU care as well as kidney transplants and bone marrow transplants. As an Academic Teaching Facility, you can expect that you will receive education and experience with all these types of patients as well as your typical Medical ICU patients. We offer Clinical Lanes for our nurses with pay increases after each lane is completed. There are a number of professional development opportunities for education, serving on committees and training to be a preceptor or rapid response nurse.

Responsibilities
- Plans and coordinates patient care, assessment, education, triage and various other nursing interventions
- Collaborates with colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care
- Empathetically cares for patients during all stages of preventive services, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up along the continuum of care
- Demonstrates competency and uses comprehensive nursing expertise
Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor s Degree in nursing preferred.
Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
