General Description
Founded in 1966, METCO is the largest voluntary school desegregation program in the country. It is the commonwealth's only program designed to address the long standing racial and economic segregation in our public schools. METCO is a critical asset in our collective effort to close the achievement gap in Mass. Following the passage of the Racial Imbalance Act in 1966, the METCO program provides the opportunity for children from racially segregated schools in Boston and children from isolated suburban schools to learn together in an integrated public school setting.
Overview
We are looking to add an energetic and experienced person to work directly with our Chief Student Services and Enrollment Officer. The College, and Career Coordinator will support our internal and external college and career programs that serve METCO students, and will also recruit and manage alumni of the program through programming, community events, and volunteer opportunities. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for the details of managing organizational systems that track and manage programs, possess a public-facing persona that is approachable and comfortable forging partnerships, leading workshops, and facilitating meetings as necessary, and be familiar with the current post-secondary readiness landscape. This candidate understands the value of high-quality post-secondary services and a strong alumni network, and will be committed to identifying and serving the needs of our students and families. and will design and implement programs to match those needs.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Chief Student Services and Enrollment Officer to support METCO students and families through:
General Duties:
? Coordinate all career and college programming, including events, workshops, field trips and panels
? Create and build partnerships that lead to greater resources, programs and supports to students
? Manage all relevant programs including recruitment and registration, interest forms, Info sessions, matching students with mentors, intervening for program issues, ensuring positive program outcomes, planning celebrations and evaluating program
? Support districts by providing onsite workshops, as requested at various suburban communities
? Maintain detailed records and case notes of students served and corresponding services
? Support all student services programming as needed, i.e. filling in during short staff days, facilitating direct service programming,
? Develop and maintain relevant resources database for college readiness and career exploration
? Recruit student to participate in all programs
? Develop content for newsletters and marketing materials
College:
? Develop, oversee, implement, and occasionally facilitate programs related to college and career readiness, including workshops, panels, field trips and events
? Support METCO-district High Schools by providing onsite college workshops, sharing resources, and collaborating on jobs programs
? Connect METCO families to college and career readiness community resources through social media posts, newsletters, and direct communication with METCO district staff
? Assist METCO students with the identification of college and career aspirations through partnerships such as SC, REEX, BU, IS), and college fairs, etc.
? Identify and list community resources with specific relevance to the METCO community,
? Coordinate SAT prep courses
? Ensure student participation in various programs
? Support students with the college application process, either in group, individual or via workshops, including completion of FAFSA, common college application, scholarship search and essays
? Create a pipeline of support services to recent high school graduates, including scholarship search support, care packages, summer internships, engagement opportunities, mentorship, etc with the goal of ensuring college retention and completion
Career:
? Develop relationships and maintain communication with district-level METCO staff working directly with High School students
? Oversee Preparing Leaders and Achievers Network (PLAN) internship
? Provide students in grades 9-16 with individual casework to support their post-high school plans
? Support the placement of recent alumni with volunteer opportunities such as mentorship with current students, workshop facilitation, panelist and tutoring opportunities
? Maintain our Salesforce database of recent alumni, parents, and volunteers along with their interests, skill sets, and notes
? Document recent alumni success stories via interview write-ups, video recordings for purposes of showcasing that METCO works
? Support event planning (virtual and in-person) via outreach, scheduling, implementation, and follow up via METCO University
? Support marketing strategies that lead to volunteer engagement via newsletters, social media, and community outreach
? Develop resources and opportunities for all students, i.e. networking events, job board, graduate school scholarships, "Lunch and Learns" program for current students and alumni, entrepreneurship opportunities, financial planning, and home ownership workshops, etc.
? Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
? Bachelor's degree required
? This position is 100% in-person
? Work hours will vary including evenings and some weekends for programming needs or events
? 1+ years experience in non-profit programming preferred
? Experience working with youth
? Keen ability to identify and support student's extracurricular needs
? Collaborative work style
? Experience with Google Suite, online research, databases, and Salesforce a plus
? Comfort with the fast-paced work environment, adaptability to change, embracing feedback, multi-tasking, meeting deadlines
? Ability to provide self-direction to accomplish work assignments and goals
? Strong communication skills (written, oral) and frequent communication with supervisor
? Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with internal and external partners
? Outgoing personality
? Ability to motivate students
? Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are a must
? Bilingual (Spanish/English) and/or (Haitian Creole/English) preferred
? Cultural competence (ability to work with diverse populations)
Must have flexibility with schedule and ability to work evenings and some weekends.
Salary range: $55,000 to $57,500/year plus benefits.
